She served as trialship for new ships of the navy until she decommissioned on November 25, 1946. Lakewood's Naval Shipyard is home to many of Seattle's top naval vessels including USS Tacoma (LPD-8), USS Everett (CVN-73), and USS San Juan Islands (LHA-2). The yard also builds amphibious landing craft such as LSTs and LSMs. These boats are used during operations such as Operation Neptune Spear and Operation Desert Storm. In 1970, Seattle became an official city with its own police department. This change aroused national attention because it highlighted how different cities reacted to having their own municipal government separate from that of the federal government. This move by Seattle increased military spending in our city - something that had not been seen before in Lakewood. As a result of this increase in military spending, much of the infrastructure associated with naval shipping was built within our city limits between 1971 and 1992. Today, Lakewood is home to four active branch Naval Shipyards - Puget Sound Shipbuilding & Dry Dock Co., Microsoft Maritime Services LLC., WAVE Marine Solutions Inc., & Western Washington Fleet Solutions Inc.—making it one of only a few communities throughout America where both commercial fishing fleets operating out of local harbours as well as Coast Guard cutter patrols can be found simultaneously at one location!

In 1924, Lakewood became one of only a few cities in Washington State to adopt a Municipal Code that allowed for stricter zoning regulations than what had been practiced before. This change helped spur development throughout the city and increased its population by 10 percent over just five years. By 1928, there were over 50 businesses operating in downtown Lakewood and over 100 people living there alone. During World War II, many factories close due to wartime production shortages closed down in America However, Lakewood continued to thrive with almost all its businesses continuing operations even during rationing times thanks to their support system of local committees who could provide goods or services without fear of government retribution
