Brookfield, Wisconsin is a town in Waukesha County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 8,824 at the 2010 census. It is the second most populous town in Waukesha County and the eighth most populous municipality in Wisconsin. The area now comprising Brookfield was first settled by German immigrants in 1847. The town was named after Ohioan Captain John Brookfield who led an expedition against the Winnebago Sioux in 1846. In 1853, a post office was established at what is now the heart of Brookfield. At that time there were only 10 people living in Brookfield; it grew rapidly thereafter with waves of settlers coming to this fertile area during the late 19th century and early 20th century. Brookfield became an incorporated city on April 14, 1909. Brookfield is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin, located on the Fox River within the Green Bay metropolitan area. The population was 53,569 at the 2010 census. The name originated from nearby Brookfield Hills and Brookfield Lake. The first Europeans to visit what is now Brookfield were Frenchmen in 1795 and they named it "Rochester". In 1824, John Darnall of Rochester purchased some land east of present-day Brookfield for $360. He built a log cabin there and called it Rochesterville Manor. In 1830, Adam Rothschild bought Rochesterville Manor from Darnall, renaming itBrookfield Manor after himself and his brother Samuelbrooks who had donated the land to him. The first town meeting in what is now Brookfield was held on April 6, 1836, when residents voted to form a town government under the leadership of George Washington Hardin (1811-1862). On November 10 of that year, voters approved a charter Amendments creating a town government with fifteen voting members: three supervisors and ten Selectmen. On February 12, 1839, voters ratified an ordinance providing for two trustees to serve as fiscal officers; one trustee would be responsible for all financial business and another for issuing bills or warrants liable for collection by selectmen; both trustees could veto ordinances passed by selectmen without dissenting vote if they felt their function should not be fulfilled thereby violating Town Charter article VIII which provides “that no ordinance shall pass but by unanimous consent” On December 3rd 1840 during a snowstorm Governor Peter Kapp created 2 new wards – Menasha on the west side of the river then known as Winnebago County line then south into Racine County – so that men might have more opportunities for education outside Racine County according to State Act 3332/7 enacted December 3rd 1840 This gave people hope this would fix things because many farmers were getting together with other merchants to buy out sections of those counties so people could live near them instead of living far away from resources like water power & markets
