De Pere is located in the heart of Wisconsin, on the border of the Midwest and Great Lakes region. The town was founded by John De Pere in 1836 as a small village. Today, De Pere is a vibrant community with a rich history that can be seen in its architecture, business opportunities, and residents. The name “De Pere” comes from an old French word meaning “the place where you can get cheese.” The first settlers to De Pere were farmers who had moved from Canada. In 1836, John De Pere set up shop in a log cabin near the present day intersection of US Highway 51 and State Road 9. He started selling cheese from his store until he built a better one two years later. By 1850, De Pere had become an important center for cheese production in western Wisconsin. In 1871, John DePere's son-in-law Daniel Webster bought the store from his father-in-law and renamed it the Webster Cheese Store. At this time, the town was home to about 100 people. In 1916, when World War I began, many local businesses closed due to wartime shortages of food products. However, Webster Cheese Store remained open during the war and continued to sell cheese even though many other stores were closed down by then. After World War II ended, many families left De Pere for various reasons: deindustrialization in Wisconsin; increased competition from Illinois; or simply because they could no longer afford to live there given rising costs of living throughout America during that period of economic recession known as "the Great Depression." But some families did stay and continue producing cheese while others relocated their business elsewhere altogether. With increasing population density within walking distance of most businesses now available through mass transportation (the bus system), grocery stores catering specifically to residential areas became increasingly popular over time; however still small towns like DePere held onto their unique character while becoming more industrialized than ever before - complete with high school boundaries which have been unchanged since those days!

De Pere is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin, on the Fox River near its confluence with the Menominee River. The population was 7,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of Racine County and is located about thirty miles (48 km) northwest of Milwaukee. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now De Pere were French traders and missionaries in 1776-77 who named it La Prairie for Pierre LeClaire, one of their number. fur traders also called it La Prairie because of its rich furs that could be found there. One early settler was John Sylvester who arrived in 1837 from Fond du Lac, Minnesota Territory. He built a sawmill and grocery store there before moving to an area now known as downtown De Pere which he named after his home village, De Grave in Normandy, France. In 1838 Isaac Augustin Sirois founded a small mission church at what is now Main Street and US Highway 12 north of town center. The first school was opened in 1839 by Revs Fenton and Nicholson together with Wm Bogenauer as teacher/reader/publisher; later this became de facto government meeting place for all residents although no formal structure had yet been erected when this occurred In 1840 Abraham Lincoln came through the region on his way from Chicago to Madisonsville where he addressed a crowd at Jefferson Park on July 4th while visiting Racine County scenes of public interest including Masonic Lodge No 2 building constructed then by order of President James Ketchum as model for State Capitol Building – Racine County Courthouse today). After coming downriver he stopped at Green Bay on his way back up river before continuing northeast via Manitowoc finally reaching Appleton June 8th 1840 just before Lincoln’s inauguration as 44th US president less than two weeks earlier So many people drove overland then thru Bad Axe that point opposite extreme end results are still visible points where wagon track crossed creek
De Pere, Wisconsin was first settled in 1836 by Jacob and Eliza De Pere. The town grew quickly, and by 1855 it had a population of over 100 people. A school was built in the town in 1857, and the first post office was established in De Pere in 1861. The town became an agricultural center, and until the early 20th century it depended on hand-held tools for farming. Today, De Pere is a small city with a rich history that includes many famous residents such as Nobel Prize winner Maurice Sendak and inventor Charles Eames.
