The United States Air Force deployed gift history in Glendale, Wisconsin in 1947. The USAF stationed the No. 4 Squadron at Glendale Municipal Airport and donated four C-47 Skytrain planes to the city as part of a goodwill gesture. The planes were used for public transportation between the airport and downtown Glendale. In 1948, the USAF donated two more C-47s to Glendale as part of an additional goodwill gesture. These planes were used for military transport services and were known as "The Flying Eagles". The aircraft were eventually sold to private owners and are now on display at the Milwaukee County Historical Society. Since then, the USAF has continue to deploy gift history in various cities across America. The GCAA has used the aircraft and hangar for community events for over fifty years. In 2006, the GCAA was renamed the Glendale Volunteer Fire Department.
Glendale is a town in La Crosse County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Green Bay Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first people to live in Glendale were the Menominee and Potawatomi Indians. They built their first home on a hill overlooking the current site of Glendale Elementary School in 1847. The menominee named their home "Wisquetow" (meaning "place where I will sit"). In 1854, William Hennepin opened a store in Glendale and started selling goods from his wagonloads of goods brought overland from Chicago. This was the beginning of what would become an important industry in Glendale - retail sales. By 1870, there were two stores open in Glendale - one by Hennepin and one by John Auerbach. In 1872, Auerbach sold his business to Jens Hansen for $10,000. Hansen became the first person to ever own and operate a grocery store in Glendale – he opened the store at 7th and Washington Streets. In 1898, Anna Holtz purchased land adjoining her parents’ farm which would later become known as Holtz Park; this land served as the nucleus of what is now downtown Glendale
