It is the second most populous municipality in Milwaukee County after the city of Milwaukee. The Pewaukee ZIP Code (53213) has been home to many professional and political leaders over the years including two U.S. Senators, four members of the Wisconsin State Senate, and numerous state and local officials. The Village of Pewaukee was first settled in 1848 by German immigrants who had come to what is now Milwaukee from Wauwatosa County in northwestern Wisconsin as part of the Great Northwest Migration. At first there were no schools in Pewaukee so children either worked on farms or went to school with their parents until 1840 when a school was built on land donated by Captain John Sievers (1788-1857). In 1851 it became part of Racine Township which then became Racine County before becoming Milwaukee County. The village seal reflects this history with a green field with a white cross within it; this indicates that piety or Christianity played an important role in early development hereabouts as well as cultural diversity exhibited through each generation coming ashore: "Pewaukee -" means "a place where many waters meet." In 1915, when Racine Township merged intoMilwaukee County, Pewaukee remained within Racine Township although its residents voted to become an unincorporated community separate from the county limits on April 15th, 1915 under consideration by commissioners George Fenton and Julius Rosenwald (both men later appointed justices on the Supreme Court ofWisconsin). Prior to this time, all municipalities within present-day Milwaukee County were incorporated into their respective counties but because of population growth throughout much of Wisconsin during those years villages began developing outside their original municipal boundaries for economic reasons including water access or other reasons unique to their location such as proximity to railroads or universities which served as growing markets for goods exported from these areas. Today Town Meeting Day occurs annually on April 15th following its previous year's date set by Commissioners Fenton and Rosenwald without anyvillage participation thereby ensuring continued village autonomy even though annexed municipalities have increased populations relative to recalled votes since then primarily due to annexation by neighboring towns which have seen their borders expand due mostlyto new industrial developments adjacent thereto rather than annexationrequested byVillage Leaders seeking more Residents & Businesses closeby!

Pewaukee is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin, located in the center of the Green Bay metropolitan area. The population was 10,844 at the 2010 census. Pewaukee is home to two colleges: Waukesha and Milwaukee Area Technical College. The town was founded by Germans in 1847 as Hegewisch on the east side of Green Bay, just south of where it would later become known as Milwaukee. The name Hegewisch means "hillock" or "haunted mound." In 1852, when WI became a state, Hegewisch became part of Racine County and incorporated as a city. A year later, Racine County changed its name to Walworth County and Hegewisch reverted back to its original name. In 1871, John Fitch built him an sawmill on the west side of the river for $4 per acre (the land cost only $0.50 per acre then). This milling industry thrived until 1975 when it closed due to competition from other mills in neighboring towns such as Kenosha and Solon. The last sawmiller in Pewaukee died in 1984; however, his sawmill still stands today and is used for wood-turning purposes by local residents. According to 2000 Census data, there were 9 grocery stores within 5 miles (8 km) of Pewaukee Center (the community's largest mall), making it one of highest concentration areas for grocery stores anywhere within 5 miles (8 km). Most notably are Safeway Shopping Centers which are located around milepost 7 on I-94E/Upper Arlington Road northbound between State Highway 11 and Interstate 94W outside downtown Green Bay; Kroger Super Markets located just east of mile post 8 on I-94E/Upper Arlington Road southbound between State Highway 11 and Interstate 94W outside downtown Green Bay; Target Field - about 3 miles (5 km) southeast from Pewaukee Center off I-94W near exit 235A; Sam's Club - about 2 blocks away from center off USware Way near exit 221B
