Weston, Wisconsin is a small town in the state of Wisconsin. It was founded in 1836 by settlers from Ohio and Michigan. The population was 707 at the 2010 census. Weston is located on the eastern bank of the Kettle River. It is part of the Milwaukee metropolitan area. The first settler to arrive in Weston was John Weston, who arrived in 1836. He and his family erected a log cabin on what is now State Highway 31. The first school in Weston was built on what is now State Highway 122. In 1840, David Waddell founded a gristmill here which became one of the largest mills in Wisconsin. In 1851, George Stephenson donated land to build a sawmill on tributary of the Kettle River. The mill began operations in 1852 and manufactured lumber, axes, screws, cattle products and other items until it closed its doors in 1916. From 1850 to 1860, about 140 families lived and worked near the mill site; however, after 1860 most residents left for better opportunities elsewhere within Milwaukee County or outside of Wisconsin altogether due to changes brought about by industrialization throughout America during this time period such as transportation improvements that made it easier for goods to move around more freely and less expensively than when wagon trains filled with goods traveled across country on horseback or wagons pulled by oxen
