Millbrook is a small town in Randolph County, Alabama, United States. The population was 1,848 at the 2010 census. Millbrook is located on the Trussville–Millbrook Bridge over the Cahaba River. The community began as a small post office called "Millbrook" in 1892. It was renamed to its current name of "Millbrook" in 1905. The community was founded by two farmers, James and Fannie Hargrave, who came from nearby Sheffield. The original millstone building still stands today and has been used as a church since 1925. Today, Millbrook is an agricultural center with a variety of businesses including a grocery store, bank, insurance agency and several agricultural enterprises. Millbrook is a small town in Marshall County, Alabama, United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. Millbrook is part of the Birmingham–Troy-Anniston metropolitan area. Millbrook was founded by settlers in 1819. The post office began operation in 1825 and was called "Millsborough". It changed its name to "Millbrook" in 1875. The community sprang up around a gristmill on the outskirts of town that had been used by the same family for generations. The first store opened in 1827 and soon came a blacksmith shop, wagon shop, schoolhouse, and Methodist church. A gristmiller continued to be built until 1906 when it became an oil wellhead. In 1870 Millbrook had one grocery store, three churches (Methodist, Baptist, and Presbyterian), two schools (one public and one private), four businesses (two stores and two farmers' markets), six residents, one school bus stop, one telephone line (operating from 1876 until 1899), two pump stations for water distribution from springs located near the mill northeast of town limits, one gasoline station/theater complex built between 1920-24 by local developer Rufus Withers Jr., two machine shops operated by Hinton Manufacturing Company during World War II as part of Project Jugulator - a program which provided machines needed for war production; ten residences were built after 1924 while the mill closed down due to increased competition from other mills in the area; only five remain today with most being added between 1978-2004 following approval of plans to demolish much of what remained after more than 50 years without permanent occupants or use; The last resident left Millbrook in 2004 when their house burned down; this occurred just weeks before a planned demolition took place that would have destroyed many homes including those dating back to pre-WWII days within mill boundaries had not some people taken action resulting in their purchase of rights to keep most if not all these structures prior to demolition as per an agreement made between mill management company LLC and individuals who interventionists saw as key players interested in preserving what remained from previous inhabitants despite offers from either side to sell or donate property outright
