The Coast Guard was founded in 1915 and has played an important role in the community of Pell City, Alabama for over 100 years. The Coast Guard provides law enforcement, public health, environmental protection, and other essential services to the citizens of Pell City. The first Coast Guard station was built on what is now known as Second Street in Pell City. This station served as a base for the local police department and was also used to provide training for new officers. In 1922, the Coast Guard erected a larger station on Third Street which became known as “Pell City” Station. The Station functioned as both a jurisdictional center for the area and also served as a recruitment ground for new members of the Coast Guard. In 1953, the United States Congress passed legislation authorizing the creation of a helicopter squadron within the Coast Guard. This squadron was named “Coast Guardsman Squadron Three” and it soon became apparent that helicopter service would be necessary to meet increased homeland security threats such as terrorist attacks. In 1976, President Gerald Ford authorized $2 million for development of helicopters within the Coast Guard fleet and this allowed forthe purchase of four Sikorsky SH-3E Super Stallions. These helicopters were later modified into what are now known as MH-60R Black Hawk Helicopters. Since its inception, coast guard gift history has been significant in providing essential services to residents of Pell City and neighboring communities across Alabama. The Pell City Coast Guard Station was established on December 15, 1941. It was located in the town of Pell City, Alabama. The station served as the primary communication center for the entire coastline of northern Alabama and Mississippi.
Pell City, Alabama is a small town located in the U.S. state of Alabama. The population was 1,857 at the 2010 census and it is the county seat of Marshall County. Pell City is part of the Birmingham-Hoover metropolitan area. It has a humid subtropical climate (Cfa) with mean temperatures ranging from 85 to 95 degrees Fahrenheit year-round. The first European settlers in Pell City were Frenchmen who landed on what is now known as Cape Girardeau Street in 1777. By 1827, there were about 20 families living in Pell City, most of whom came from Mobile County, Alabama and Tennessee. In 1881, an act was passed by Congress establishing Marshall County; as a result, Pell City became its county seat and saw rapid growth over the next several decades as cotton farming became more prevalent inMarshall County than other areas within Alabama. During World War II, many local men actively served in the military through various organizations such as the National Guard or United States Air Force Detachment #1 which operated out of nearby Hoover Airport until 1945 when it was disbanded due to budget limitations. Today, much of Pell City's downtown core still contains evidence of this wartime activity including WWII veterans' gravesites and memorials that can be seen throughout downtown areas such as Main Street and Court Avenue In recent years however, there has been significant redevelopment taking place within city limits with new businesses opening up along main streets such as Court Avenue and Vine Street while new housing developments have sprung up near Interstate 55/Upper Level Road Today, PellCity remains one of Tuscaloosa's most vibrant cities with arts scenes being strong throughout much of downtown while retail corridors remain bustling with all types of businesses open 24/7

Today, Pell City is home to numerous businesses and cultural institutions, including The University of Southern Mississippi (USM) campus; The Faulkner Museum of American Literature; The Rice Theatre; The Anna Ladd Folk Art Museum;and more. Its history is still being studied by locals and visitors alike, and its presence is felt throughout the community today - both physically and emotionally.
The Pell City, Alabama community was founded in 1881 by James and Emma Mellon. The Mellons were the first white settlers in the area, and they built a cotton plantation on land that is now known as Mellon Park. They became prominent businessmen and political leaders in the early years of the town's development, and their donations to local charities helped make Pell City one of the most philanthropic communities in Alabama. The Mellons also played an important role in developing Pell City's infrastructure, including its own schools and churches. As cotton production declined throughout the late 19th century, Pell City slowly began to decline until it lost its status as a manufacturing center during the Great Depression. However, since then it has slowly regained some of its former prosperity through businesses such as aviation manufacturing and professional services.
