The Weisbergs were two of the first people to open a coffee shop in Pleasant Grove, and their roast-house-Coffee is still one of the most popular types of coffee in town. They continue to operate their business and roast beans today, as well as providing customer service that is second to none. In 2003, Pleasant Grove's first non-profit organization was founded in order to support local businesses: The Chamber of Commerce. Their mission is to promote economic development through strong partnerships with local businesses. In addition to providing marketing and promotional assistance for local businesses, the Chamber helps develop new relationships between businesses and government officials. The current ownership of the Original Coffee Roastery has continously supported many different causes throughout its history; from giving back to the community by donating time and money towards various charities, all the way up until now they have donated over $100,000 towards various causes. This dedication has kept them one of Pleasant Grove's top employers for many years now!
Pleasant Grove is a small town in Jefferson County, Alabama, United States. The population was 517 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Birmingham–Hoover Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers in Pleasant Grove were Methodists from North Carolina who came overland during the 1820s and 1830s. They named their new community after a grove of trees near their farmstead. The first home in Pleasant Grove was built on the site of what is now the old High School building. In 1852, Reverend James Witherspoon founded Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and began to teach there. Mrs. Witherspoon (the mother of Bishop John A.Witherspoon) also founded a school for girls in 1865 and served as its first teacher until her death in 1938. In 1907, Reverend Jeptha Henson organized a group of pastors to help pastor various rural churches throughout Alabama, and he called it the Churches' Fellowship Bible Institute (CFBI). CFBI soon became an important tool for evangelism and missionary work among African Americans in southernAlabama; many black pastors joined CFBI through this program. A Sunday School was organized at Pleasant Grove church on October 10th, 1902 by Rev Capps with Mrs Rankin as his teacher [1]. A Nursery Department was started by Mrs Rankin on February 9th 1903 with 4 pupils under 12 years old [2]. The Ladies Auxiliary No 1 was organized March 3rd 1904 with 8 members [3]. On July 6th 1905 Dr King gave instruction on Seed Culture from 2-5 p m . The first residents of Pleasant Grove were farmers who came to the area during the early 1800s. They built their homes on high ground near Auburn University, which made it easy for them to getickets to plays and other events inBirmingham. The early settlers were Methodist missionaries who helped spread Christianity into this region. In 1838, Pleasant Grove was chartered as a Village by James Hancey and others from Mobile and Tuscaloosa counties. By 1850, there were about fifty people living in Pleasant Grove. The town had two stores and four residences when it was taken over by the state in 1868 because of an influx of men looking for land to settle in central Alabama (most of whom had been brought over as slaves). When they became citizens, many of these men donated land to form what is now Atmore County if they could find it free from Indian ownership or patent restrictions. Pleasant Grove experienced some growth during World War II; its population increased from 350 in 1942 to 629 at the 1940 census after being recruited by the US Navy's Aircraft plant at Decatur Bluff as part of Operation Mockingbird (the code name for Project Blue Book), which aimed to track American citizens suspected of being spies or Romani Jews working with Japanese forces
