Apache Junction is a small town in the United States of America located in Mohave County, Arizona. It is part of the Phoenix metropolitan area and straddles Interstate 10. The population was 2,878 at the 2010 census. The name Apache Junction comes from the Hopi word "ajapai" which means "white man's place." The town was first established in 1875 by Mormon settlers, who named it after their old home in Utah Territory. In 1881, when the railroad arrived in Arizona, Apache Junction became one of its first communities. It grew quickly as a result of its location on I-10 and its access to goods and services available only hours away from downtown Phoenix.
