Avondale, AZ is a small town in the Phoenix metropolitan area located about an hour and a half northwest of downtown Phoenix. The population was 14,752 at the 2010 census. Ayer built two frame buildings on his farm which were used as stores until 1907 when he sold them to Wm Hatton who turned them into a hotel called The Arizona Hotel which became known as The Majestic Conveniently Located for All Occasions which still stands today across from First Mesa Middle School on Green Valley Road just east of I-10 East exit 202A (and just north of Interstate 10). In 1915 David Jones opened up his own grocery store at Seventh Avenue and McDowell Drive which became known as Davids Pharmacy before being acquired by Safeway in 1977. After Safeway left town there was much contention among local business owners over who would take over their property since there were no paved roads or exits leading into or out of town so most businesses resorted to renting space from other businesses or leasing parking lot space from state government agencies like Pima County Airport Authority etc., until finally one man decided to take all these spaces available within walking distance of each other - Roy Schenkel whose store remains today at 10th Street & Buckeye Road across from Walmart across from Lake Havasu Casino
