The Naval Air Station Avondale was established in 1942. NAS Avondale is the home of the Grumman F9F-1 “ Corsair” jet fighter squadron, which has been flying Lockheed P-3C Orion aircraft since 1946. The Navy also operated a naval weather station at NAS Phoenix from 1941 to 1945. In 1944, NAS Phoenix became an operational base for the United States Naval Forces Europe (USNFE) and flew operations from RAF Lakenheath, England.
Avondale, Arizona is a small town in Pima County, Arizona, United States. It is situated on the east side of the Salt River Valley and has a population of about 1,000. The name "Avondale" comes from AVON-dare meaning "to Attack." The Avondale post office was established in 1901. The first store in town was founded by J.W. Hutton and Wm. Taylor in 1907. In 1916, the first movie theater was opened in town by Harry Cohn and his brothers-in-law Sam Goldwyn and Metro Pictures Corporation. The area now comprising Avondale was first populated by the Coconino Nation and their allies during the late 18th century as part of what is now known as Apache Country. In 1858 an American party led by José María Escalante discovered large deposits of silver at Tonto Basin which induced Colonel Charles Sibley to send out a force under Lieutenant David packers to explore these new lands claimed by both sides in what became known as the Mexicansilver conflict; but soon after this discovery there were two other major discoveries: lead at Gila Bend (1859) and copper at Antelope Wells (1860). In 1861 Tucson avowed its independence from Mexico with General José Herrera Laguna commanding it while Captain Manuel Michelin led an army into Cochise Territory to expel all Mexicans east of Tucson Mountains; however supplies failed to arrive due to different causes including political unrest within Mexico City among other things so on December 10th only 9 men made it through hostile territory before being surrounded and destroyed near present day Prescott when they encountered Apache Scouts led by Gerónimo de la Cruz (15th Native American horseman with 6 Arrows) after some initial scouting that revealed many mountains north of Prescott not accessible via road or trails

Avondale, Arizona is a city in Pinal County, Arizona, United States. The population was 805 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1884 by brothers George and William Hite. The city grew rapidly during the late 19th century and into the early 20th century as a result of its location on the Gila River Basin and due to its role in wagon trade between Tombstone and Prescott. In 1912, Avondale became an incorporated town, and in 1928 it amalgamated with the adjoining towns of Globe and Coolidge to form the current city. Avondale is located on both banks of Gila River just east of Interstate 10 about halfway between Phoenix and Tucson. The river forms much of the eastern border of Avondale before turning northeastward near Indian School Dam. Downtown Avondale is bounded by First Street on the north; Second Street east; Third Street south; Mesa Avenue west; and University Drive southwest. According to one source, "the first thing people did when they arrived in this area was look for water." Water had been scarce throughout most of Arizona Territory until white settlers began arriving in droves during 1864 based upon their findings that gold could be found nearby at Apache Pass (now part of Tempe). By 1870 there were over 1,000 residents living along what would become known as East Gila River Road which connected Prescott with Scotts Valley while West Gila River Road connected Flagstaff with Oroville. From these routes travelers travel today's streets including Main Street/Gulf Freeway which runs parallel to I-10 from downtown through Mesa Avenue/University Drive then turns northwest onto First Street before continuing southeast into countryside beyond Indian School Dam where it joins East Gila River Road again before terminating at US-1 near Scotts Valley proper about two miles west from town center - all within easy driving distance for those wishing access! By 1885 there were three businesses operating out of what would become known as “The Hite Warehouse” – George Hite ( Owner ), William Hite ( Warehouseman ), & Isaac Stevens ( Teamster ). A store opened up on East 3rd street corner soon after but due to economic reasons closed later that same year when goods became too costly to transport across country using wagons unloaded at Fort Sill so goods began being transported by boat downriver linking Prescott with Tombstone under new arrangements made between Carlsbad Caverns Railroad Co., Minesburgh & Globe Railroad Co., Prescott Land Company etc.. This happened gradually over time until finally Amtrak reached Prescott via Gila River Bridge carrying passengers en route from Phoenix heading north towards Chicago Union Station . Passenger service stopped here however leaving locals& tourists stranded without transportation so more & more businesses started opening up providing necessary supplies like groceries etcetera making living conditions much easier especially since many citizens decided not to leave their homes taken over by outsiders looking for an opportunity! For a time post World War II things looked bleak for avondalese as development took precedence over history but thanks largely to an influx of refugees following WWII many avondalesians have bounced back taking advantage of available jobs opportunities both inside or outside their home country even if they left everything behind once they got here… reuniting families who had been apart since childhood or joining others who had also relocated during hard times years ago are some common memories shared among residents today – something few thought possible just five decades ago!
