There has been a Air Force gift history in Buckeye, Arizona dating back to World War II. In 1941, the United States military began purchasing B-29 bombers. The planes were used for strategic bombing of enemy targets and were very noisy and difficult to fly. The Air Force ordered 1,000 of these bombers in 1942 and soon began using them for air defense against Japanese aircraft. The first B-29s actually flew on November 9, 1941. They were piloted by Colonel James Eaker who was then the Deputy Director of Strategic Services at Headquarters USAF. Eaker was instrumental in convincing Roosevelt to allow America to enter World War II without any Bomber Command units available as a deterrent against Japan’s potential aggression. With 1,000 bomber planes and an expanded role as strategic bomber force, the Air Force quickly became one of the most powerful militaries in the world during World War II. One of the first gifts given by the Air Force to Buckeye residents was a plane – an F4U Corsair fighter plane – which arrived on Christmas Day 1945. This gift represented something new for this small town since no other community had received such an important piece of American airpower prior to that point. The squadron stationed at Luke AFB at that time flew Des Moines Airmen into Japan when they attacked Pearl Harbor on December 8th 1945 in what is known as “The Attack On Pearl Harbor” which led to America entering World War II officially!

The Ohio Air National Guard's Buckeye Wing has a rich history in the community. The wing was activated on December 12, 1941 as the 169th Bombardment Group, Ohio Army National Guard. It became the Buckeye Wing on October 1, 1942 when it was redesignated as the 614th Bombardment Wing. The wing flew its first combat mission on May 10, 1943 from an airfield near Toledo. In 1945, the 614th BW began flying missions to Okinawa and Japan in support of the Okinawa campaign. On July 15, 1945, the wing became responsible for flying missions over Korea in support of United Nations forces fighting North Korean forces. On September 2nd of that year, during Operation Junction City II, 614 BW aircraft participated in strikes against targets within Pyongyang such as missile sites and other important installations. Buckeye is a city in Pima County, Arizona, United States. The population was 6,815 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Pima County. The Buckeye area was first settled by the Arikara people in 1867. A post office was established at Buckeye in 1872, and the town was platted in 1879. The name of Buckeye may be derived from an Apache word meaning "a little fire." In 1907, when irrigated land near Buckeye became available for farming after years of drought, settlers began to arrive and develop the town. In 1912 a irrigation canal was built through Buckeye to bring water from wells east of Tucson into the town. By 1916, most of what is now Buckeye had been developed and it became part of the new Phoenix metropolitan area. In 1940–41 as World War II approached and MX troops were being stationed around Tucson for combat duty, many local businesses decided to close their doors because they could not compete with war-time prices or supplies provided by military installations such as Travis Air Force Base and Peoria Army Depot. Some reopened after hostilities ended but others closed completely during peacetime when production slowed down due to lack of demand or other reasons. In 1945 some business owners reopened which started a trend that continues until this day; small businesses providing services within their own communities rather than selling products statewide or out-of-state. The current incarnation of Tucson's downtown district began developing around this time as well. In 1952–53 there were plans to construct a freeway along Interstate 10 through central Phoenix but these were shelved because traffic congestion on I-10 would have been intolerable. The tracker system helps scientists track satellites so they can see where they are located and how they are performing. Buckeye, Arizona is a small town in Pima County, Arizona. It is located on the edge of Buckeye Creek, about 10 miles east of Tucson and 5 miles south of the larger village of Buckeye. The population was 1,564 as of the 2010 census. The community was founded by Father Vicente Gomez in 1892 as a mission station called San José de la Esperanza for Spanish Catholics living in what is now Pima County. It was renamed Buckeye after General John A. Pershing's cavalry destroyed it during the Mexican-American War. In 1903, Francisco "Pancho" Villa raided nearby Apache Stronghold and burned much of Buckeye; this event became known as the Battle of Buckeye Creek. In 1924, when Guggenheim Museum founder Alfred Dreyfus moved to Tucson and planned to open his museum there, he purchased land adjacent to present-day Buckeye Creek for its new campus; construction began in 1927 and finished in 1930. The museum opened to the public on October 15, 1930. After World War II ended, many businesses closed around Tucson because of job shortages following the war's victory over Japan; however, most reopened soon afterwards thanks to post-war growth in Tucson and elsewhere in Arizona. Since 2000, several private development projects have led to increased traffic around Buckeye creek due to their associated residential development; these projects have generally been more positive than those that preceded them but have also had some negative effects on nearby businesses and residences (see " Effects of development on local economy"). In recent years there has been increasing concern about water availability with respect to neighboring townships Agua Dulce or Oro Valley as well as with respect to groundwater recharge rates from agricultural production within strata below which water levels may decrease ifEhrenfriedinger et al.'s proposed underground city goes through without any major opposition from locals or developers (see "Water availability: Recent developments at Buckeye creek").
In 1875, the Arizona Territory was organized and Buckeye, as it was then known, became its capital. The city's population reached 10,000 by 1880. Mining activity in the area first began in 1868 and continued until after the turn of the century. In 1898, Buckeye became part of the newly created State of Arizona when it was admitted to the United States.
