The Buckeye Coast Guard Station was founded in 1921 as the first coast guard station on the Arizona-Mexico border. It served as a checkpoint for goods and passengers crossing into Mexico. In 1954, the Coast Guard Station became its own agency and began providing law enforcement services along the border. In 1982, it became part of Ninth Circuit Coast Guard District #1. On October 1, 1994, Buckeye Coast Guard Station was transferred to Ninth Circuit Coast Guard District #2 effective January 1, 1995. On July 30, 2006, Ninth Circuit Coast Guard District #2 changed its name to Tenth Circuit Coast Guard District after the tenth circuit court of Appeals was created in 2004. The name change reflected the district’s expanded jurisdiction over centralArizona including Buckeye and surrounding areas
Buckeye is a city in Pima County, Arizona, United States. The population was 5,714 at the 2010 census. The name Buckeye comes from the Apache word "buca," meaning "a small cottonwood." The town of Buckeye was founded in 1887 by John Lubbock and James Hargrave. It was named for General George Armstrong Custer who had died during the Mexican–American War in 1867. Naming rights to the town were given to postmaster Edwin Fenton Lewis in 1906 by General Hugh Miller after Lewis's father, Captain Edwin Fenton Lewis of Company K, Seventh Infantry California Volunteers). In 1920, Harry S. Truman became President of the United States and ordered his general staff to take possession of all military installations east of the Mississippi River without giving any consideration to their civilian occupants. This action resulted in economic disaster for most eastern towns that depended on military bases for their economy. As a result, Congress passed an act providing for municipal annexation into larger cities or communities if they could provide financial support such as water and sewer systems; thus Buckeye became part of Phoenix on July 1, 1926. In 1951, whilestill a town with a population under 10 thousand people-the first time this had ever been done-the city council adopted an ordinance establishing zoning regulations which limited commercial development within one mile (1 kilometer) of existing homes or churches/synagogues. This ordinance also prohibited demolition or alteration of structures within one block of any business establishment which operated before November 1st 1954; that is until such time as new businesses were brought into compliance with zoning regulations set forth by the council subsequent to passage of SB 1070 which amended state law governing land use

Buckeye, Arizona is a small town in Pinal County, Arizona. The population was 471 at the 2010 census. Buckeye is located about 8 miles east of Cochise City and 15 miles south of Yuma. The first residents of Buckeye were Native American Hualapai Apache who lived there for years before moving to what is now Flagstaff. In 1868, prospectors found coal and gold near present-day Buckeye and began mining the area. By 1870, over 20 mines had been opened in the area and by 1881, it had become a boomtown with businesses such as saloons, hotels, churches and mills. The mines declined after 1890 but continued to be mined until production stopped in the 1920s due to World War I moratoriums on coal mine operations in America. In 1919, John Wesley Dobie started ranching in what is now Buckeye and soon developed a fine herd of cattle which he sold to ranchers around the state. In 1925, he donated land to the Pinal County Agricultural Extension Service for use as an experimental farm that became known as Dobie Ranch State Historic Park today. After World War II ended, much of the local community died from natural disasters such as earthquakes or plagues (eclipsing crops). However, some Locals resurrected their spirit by starting small businesses throughout town during this time period including: a grocery store (1941), clothing store (1947), post office (1959) and many more since then including: a barbershop/ beauty salon (1978), bank (1991), fire station (1996) and more! In 2000–2001 negotiations took place between city leadership and Pinal County officials regarding developing an urban development plan for Buckeye – ultimately never realized due to budget cuts within county government at that time. Plans calls for reopening of all existing mines which would create thousands of jobs while also impacting nearby communities; however these plans never came to fruition either because funding could not be secured or elected leaders did not want another Urban Development Plan within town limits without approval from city hall!
