Buckeye, Arizona is an agricultural town in Pinal County, Arizona. The population was 1,813 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Pinal County. The first people to live in Buckeye were the Hualapai and Apache Indians who traded with the Arizonans for goods such as meat, water supplies, and horses. In 1867 a group of Mormons from Salt Lake City moved to Buckeye after traveling through southern Arizona on their way to California. The Mormons built a small town near Buckeye and named it Harney after George Harney who had been instrumental in organizing the Mormon Battalion during World War I. In 1907 a fire destroyed most of Harney's buildings including the original courthouse which still stands today. After that time much of what was done in Buckeye centered around its Catholic church located on Main Street which served as a community center until it fell into disrepair in 1958 when the building was torn down to make way for new development. In 1957 Tedsie Laughlin donated land to be used as a community park named after her late husband John Laughlin whose company manufactured aluminum cans at their plant in Tempe, Arizona. The park now has a swimming pool, baseball fields, playgrounds, picnic areas, and more. In 1969 construction began on what would become one of Buckeye's most significant landmarks – the O'Donnell Dam which helped create irrigation systems surrounding much of central Phoenix making possible its growth during this period while also providing power for local businesses and homes. Today O'Donnell Dam remains one of Buckeye's most visible symbols while also playing an important role in helping maintain infrastructure throughout Pinal County

Buckeye, Arizona is a small town in the Phoenix metropolitan area. It was founded in 1898 by George W. Buckeye and his family. The Buckeyes are among the numerous pioneer families who have helped to shape the character of this community. The town has been important to Arizona’s history for many years. In 1903, it became the site of one of the first executions in Arizona when John Wesley Hardin was executed there. Other significant events during Buckeye’s early years include its incorporation as a city in 1912 and its annexation by Phoenix in 1924. Today, Buckeye is an important center for local government and commerce inside and outside of Phoenix. Its residents are proud of their town’s history and appreciate all that it has done for them over the years.

In 1864, the Arizona Territorial Legislature passed a bill creating the Buckeye Indian Reservation. The reservation was named in honor of General John Frémont, who had fought in the Mexican-American War and then served as governor of Arizona. The reservation was created from land that had been part of the Gila River Basin. The first owner of the land on which the reservation was located was John Witherow. In 1868, Witherow sold his land to Capt. James Fenton for $1,000 cash. Fenton donated additional land to the tribe in 1870 and 1872. Between 1880 and 1912, there were more than seventy-five families living on the Buckeye Indian Reservation. In 1912, however, it became clear that many of these people would not be able to continue living on their reservations because they lacked immunity from white settlement or other legal issues connected with title to lands within Indian Country. As a result, most of these remaining Indians were forced to leave their reservations and live in white settlements throughout central Phoenix until they were finally given citizenship by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1938.
