Bullhead City, Arizona is a city in Pima County, Arizona, United States. The population was 21,898 at the 2010 census. It is the largest city in Pima County and the seat of Pima County government. The name "Bullhead City" is derived from theSitka Kaapana term "Hākūnu līhua", meaning white sand beach. The first post office in Bullhead City was opened on November 15, 1881. In 1902, it became a part of Tucson and incorporated as a town. On February 14, 1912, it became an independent city when it annexed part of theCity of Phoenix under its jurisdiction. Phoenix annexed all of Bullhead City's land east of Interstate 10 on April Fool's Day 1913. In 1922, Bullhead City merged with Apache Junction to form one municipality which lasted until 1932 when both cities were again separate municipalities due to various financial problems within each community caused by their respective incorporation periods and growth rates (the merger had been proposed by Mayor John Witherspoon). On October 1st 1915 there was an attack on two bulls near Dupont Circle by three men who were seeking revenge for being slighted earlier that day while working outside their family farm near Scotts Valley Rancho de la Mesa Clifton Park Allerton Road between McDowell Avenue and Larkspur Boulevard in what would become known as “The Gilded Age” cattle rustling ring led by ace rancher A C Billingsley that netted $1 million over 25 years including savings bonds for future payouts valued at about $100 million today according to oral histories archived at University of Arizona Library Special Collections Research Center and held copyrighted ©1997-2010 American Memory Project Documentation No: AZLOC 760622)

Bullhead City is a tiny town in the Phoenix metropolitan area, located about 15 miles south of downtown Phoenix on Interstate 10. At its peak in the 1920s, it had a population of around 2,000 people. Today, Bullhead City has a population of just over 100 and is considered an agricultural community. The first settler in Bullhead City was George Hanks, who arrived there in 1885. The town was named for Chief Buffalo (a local Apache chief). In 1902, James W. Klyde purchased land in Bullhead City from the Cholla Indian Tribe and built a small cabin here. By 1912, Klyde had developed Bullhead City into a small town with a post office and two stores. In 1924, the Arizona State Road Commission road-named I-10 as part of their plan to improve travel between Phoenix and Tucson. The name "Bullhead" was chosen to represent the headwaters of the Gila River which flows through both cities. In 1930, Harry Ahern opened his first store in Bullhead City. Ahern's store became one of the most popular businesses in Bull Head City until he closed it in 1963 after 45 years of business operation. Other prominent merchants during this time include J C Beaumont who operated a grocery store from 1951 to 1978; Sam Dickson who operated a hardware store from 1955 to 1984; Roy Collier who ran an air conditioning/heating company from 1959 to 1988; Stanley Latham who operated an auto dealership from 1961 to 1990; and Donny Smith who owned and operated several convenience stores throughout central Arizona before closing them all down at various points during their careers.*
