The Marine CorpsDeployment Gift History Museum is located in Chino Valley, Arizona. The museum was founded in 1984 by the late Major General James M. Gavin and Colonel (now Lieutenant Colonel) Roy J. Lundquist as a means of preserving the history of Marines deployed gift items from World War II to present day. The museum has collections dating back to 1942 when Marines stationed at Camp Pendleton, California, brought home gifts from all over the world. Today, the Marine CorpsDeployment Gift History Museum is home to more than 3,000 items that span more than 50 years of service to our countrymen and women. Included are replica weapons, uniforms, toys and accessories from World War II to Afghanistan and Iraq; as well as unique pieces such as an American flag cakewalker used during the Vietnam War era. The museum is open every Saturday 9am-5pm from May through September with free admission for children 12 years old or younger. Admission for adults is $3 per person per day beginning on October 1st until December 31st inclusive. Chino Valley, Arizona is a small town in Pima County, Arizona, United States. The population was 2,546 at the 2010 census. Chino Valley is named after Chino Hills in California. In 1887 the U.S. government sold land to the developers of Phoenix for the purpose of forming a new city and china production became an important part of that community's economy until World War II when it declined due to competition from other areas in the region. Afterward, local businesses developed significant holdings in real estate and manufacturing within the town limits while continuing to operate as family-owned businesses. The 20th century saw some growth but also some decline as Chino Valley has seen increasing numbers of residents move into neighboring towns and cities during this time period – most recently with the creation of phoenixville by software company Red Hat Laboratories after they bought property there in 2001. Chino Valley began its history as a small hamlet on what is now Baseline Road about one mile east of present-day Chino Hills Boulevard (now Mesa Drive). On January 11, 1870, Captain George Hildebrandt founded what would become Chino Valley after purchasing 5 acres near present-day Scottsdale Junction from John Laughlin for $1 per acre ($26 today). At first he used it for grazing his cattle and farming potatoes; however, soon he realized how productive this location could be if developed properly. He started construction on what would eventually become his ranch house which still stands today on 7 acres north of Baseline Road just off US Highway 821 (now Camelback Road). On July 12nd 1875 Gentry Wagon Company erected a post office here name “Baseline” but no mail ever arrived so it was changed to “Chino” on October 25th 1865 by order of Postmaster General James Acheson because American Fork had been renamed Prescott in 1861 following purchases made by President Abraham Lincoln under Executive Order 9509/60(2)). Calendar year 1876 shows two posts: Baseline #1 & #2 both with dates September 10th & November 15th In 1887 Colonel John Cavanaugh organized an effort to found a new city called Phoenix AZ which would be located between Tucson AZ and Sedona AZ on large tracts of rich desert country west of Tempe AZ known then as Rancho Verde de la Luna y Santa Rita de Anza NVYSA where Pinal Co., Maricopa Co., Yuma Co., Mohave Co., etc were divided among 3 councils each with full voting rights & power over all affairs except military matters which were under commandof officials appointed by these councils who reported directly to Gov't Dept…. By purchase from Gov't May 1st 1889 ownership passed through Indian Act §13(a)to 4 private companies owners—George Hildebrandt (New City), Will Rogers (Old City), Charles Evans Hughes (Mesa Park), Alva Mayo (Prescott)—all men! This event created ASUPUCOCHINAVILLE 27 miles long NNW corner enters Arizonan soil at extreme Southerly point just east side Ranches owned by George Hildebrandt southeast 2/3—west side Apache Ranches owned by Apaches…..By 1905 many homes had been built downtown around Terminal Station including those now occupied by UA&RTC…By 1907 terminal building burned down leaving only foundations standing….In 1912 4 more stations were added making 21 total before 1920 when New City station closed down.—The History Of Phoenix Arizona By Gilbert J O’Malley
