There has been a history of shooters giving gifts to one another for years. The first time that this happened was when the two groups of gunmen who were known as the Cottonwood Gang, which was later renamed the Tombstone Gang, started exchanging firearms and ammunition. They would gift each other guns and ammo as part of their friendship. This began to become more and more common until it eventually turned into an appreciation between the shooters. Eventually, shootings became less common because friends would exchange firearms rather than give them away. After many years of this tradition, there is now a custom in Cottonwood where every year on Christmas Day, members of the gang give away handguns and rounds of ammunition to individuals or families they know in order to show their support for gun culture. It is a way to show appreciation for all that these people have done for shooting sports over the years.

Cottonwood, Arizona is a small town in Payson County, Arizona. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. Cottonwood is located on the western edge of the Phoenix metropolitan area and is bordered by Apache Junction to the north and west, Glendale to the east, and Camelback Mountain to the south. The first white people to set foot in Cottonwood were United States soldiers who arrived there during World War II on assignment from Tucson. The soldiers built a cabin near what is now Cottonwood Elementary School in 1945. In 1957, when Payson County was established, cottonwoods were planted as part of a land acquisition program that aimed to create an agricultural region around Glendale. In 1959, when Cottonwood had a population of just over 100 people, two families donated land for a high school which would become Cottonwood High School. In 1964, Mayor Curley Gray announced plans for development in what is now Cottonwood Township adjacent to his city limits. The project was controversial because it would impact more than 700 acres of natural forest within city limits and demand that a special vote be held by residents before any decisions could be made about developing the land; however, it ultimately went ahead with help from City Hall. On November 3rd of that year (1964), voters approved passage of an ordinance designating 9 parcels within city Limits as “ Special Use Districts” – areas where no development could take place without prior approval from City Hall- giving developers leeway to increase their prices exponentially based on estimated impacts on environment and public services such as water supply or transportation links betweenowntown Phoenix and rural areas bordering downtown/the airport precincts etc., while also bypassing zoning requirements for other types of development proposed in those districts (residential/commercial). This arrangement continued until 1996 when all Special Use Districts were abolished by City Council resolution due to concerns about sprawl being introduced into downtown Phoenix without proper consideration for its impact on local businesses and jobs; however this did not mean that Downtown Phoenix effectively lost its ability to accommodate new residential/commercial developments which have since replaced cottonwoods as one of the most popular uses for urban space in Phoenix
In the early days of the modern firearms industry, shooters gift histories were a rarity. The town quickly developed into a bustling commercial center with both private and public businesses dotting its streets. Cottonwood's population peaked at over 10,000 during World War II but fell rapidly afterwards due to the war and ensuing depression. Despite this decline, however, Cottonwood remains one of Arizona's most vibrant communities today with numerous cultural events throughout the year including music festivals, art exhibits, and food studies classes.
