Douglas is a small town in Pima County, Arizona, United States. It is located on the east side of the county, about 25 miles northeast of Tucson and 15 miles south of Phoenix. The population was 1,021 at the 2000 census. The community was named after General Douglas MacArthur who fought in World War II and later served as Commanding General of United States Forces in Europe. The first post office in Douglas opened on December 12, 1871. The town was incorporated on February 26, 1912. By 1920 the population had increased to 2,263 people and it reached its peak with 4,898 residents in 1940. In 1950 the population had decreased to 1,011 people and by 1960 it had decreased again to 775 people. However the community continued to grow until it reached its current size of 1,021 residents at the 2000 census. The economy of Douglas is primarily based on agriculture which includes growing corn and other crops; ranching; fishing; birdwatching; and tourism related businesses such as bed-and-breakfasts and golf courses. There are also a few small manufacturing businesses that provide goods or services for local residents including construction materials; appliances; trucking services;and software development companies
With the dawn of the modern coffee industry, artisans were key players in its development. By creating and/or maintaining their own roasts and other coffee-making products, these artisan brewers exhibited a unique level of creativity and craftsmanship that set them apart from their more industrial brethren. One such artisan brewer was Joe Roast, which operated out of a small shop on Second Street in downtown Providence between 1912 and 1975. In 1976, Joe's son, Michael Roast, took over the business and continued to produce high-quality coffee until his death in 2006. Over the years, many other prominent Rhode Islandartisan brewers have followed in Joe's footsteps - including Bob DeRosario at Brown & Williamson (1975-present), Donatella Mastroianni at Peet's Coffee (1972-2006), Richie Incognito at Green Mountain Coffee (1982-present), Tim Ferriss at Starbucks (1997-present) - all of whom continue to produce some of the most delicious cupcakes and smoothies around.

Douglas, Arizona is a small town in Pima County, Arizona, United States. The population was 2,826 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Phoenix metropolitan area. Douglas is located on the east side of Pima County and is bordered by Coconino National Forest on the south and east, Apache Junction to the north, and Romeoville to the west. The first European settler in Douglas was James Irvine who arrived in 1881. He built a cabin on what is now Higgins Street near present day Macdonald Elementary School. In 1902, Jules Weisman established a homestead here with his wife Anna Maria Weisman and their four children: Harry Weisman (1902-1985), Norma Weisman (1904-1996), Dennis Weisman (1906-1991) and Julie Weisman (1908-1988). Weisman also founded a feed store in 1905 which became an important source of income for the town until it closed its doors in 1959. The weisman family remain active in Douglas through their ownership of several businesses including The Wellness Store/Gym & Spa since 1962; Heritage Place Apartments since 1978; and Our Lady Of Mount Carmel Catholic Church – Holy Cross from 1984 to 2001 when it merged with Our Lady Of Mount Carmel Parish in Phoenix. This parish then became known as Divine Providence Catholic Church #2 after merging with Sacred Heart Catholic Church #1 which had served Douglas since 1907. In addition to these businesses they are also involved with many other civic activities such as serving on village boards, playing hostess at local events or hosting block party weekends for residents during summertime. Today Douglas continues as an agricultural community with many notable crops such as cotton, cornstalks, pumpkins etc., along with ranching operations that include beef cattle and horses
Douglas was founded in 1867 by Southern Mormons, who named it after General George Douglas, the Californian brigadier general who had led an unsuccessful war against Mexico. The town quickly grew and became a key stop on the Santa Fe Trail, which connected central America with the Orient. In 1871, Douglas was renamed for President Ulysses S. Grant, following his victory in the American Civil War. In 1912, Douglas became one of the first cities in Arizona to electricize its streets and sidewalks. The city also built a water tower to provide electricity to its residents. In 1936, Douglas was designated as the state capital of Arizona by Governor Howard Pyle.
