The Eloy Air Force Base was established in 1951 as the Eloy Army Airfield. It served as a training and air defense base untilactivated in 1961. The current air force installation, activated in 1985, is home to the 6th Fighter Wing which provides fighter protection for the area. In 1982, President Reagan gave the Eloy AFB gift of a F-16 Fighting Falcon jet fighter squadron. This donation helped tourbate the local economy by creating new jobs and stimulating spending by residents and businesses alike. Since its activation, the 6th Fighter Wing has conducted more than 120 flights totaling over 6000 miles involving more than 350 pilots from 15 countries. These operations have included deployments to support Operations Iraqi Freedom and Southern Watch, both of which were highly successful. The wing has also participated in numerous joint exercises with other USAF wings throughout Arizona and Nevada providing opportunities for regional training that benefits all members of the Elloy community.

Eloy is a small town in Pinal County, Arizona. The population was 2,711 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Phoenix metropolitan area and is located on the Eloy River. The community was founded in 1887 by George W. Barnes and others as a trading post on the riverbank between present-day Covina and Eloy. The post grew to include land east of Covina, west of Phoenix, and north of Tucson before it was discontinued in 1902. In 1908, John Wesley Powell visited Eloy and named it for American explorer Isidore Ellroy who had explored that region three years earlier near Prescott Canyon. In 1912,zon Hargrave opened a general store in what is now Heritage Hall; later that year he moved his business to what is now Main Street. In 1924, local farmers began cultivating corn on their properties around town; by 1928 there were 10 sheds used for storing grains and other products grown hereabouts. On October 8 of that year an oil well was drilled in what would become downtown Eloy by Standard Oil Company with plans to supply Phoenix with petroleum until similar wells were found throughout Arizona; however due to public outcry this project was abandoned just two months later when Standard merged into Texaco (now Chevron). In 1951 General Motors started production at its new plants south of Phoenix along I-10; while production increased over time this led to some declines in sales at the old plant northeast of town which closed its doors in 1984 after many years of service under those same name(s). Today only traces remain from this plant including foundations and some older equipment still lying around corner from main entrance - all other buildings have long been gone or demolished save one contributing structure on former site which has been converted into apartments etc., but remains much like it during GM heyday: an imposing white box surrounded by green trees! Eloy's economy changed significantly when Interstate 10 became known as "The Road To Nowhere" following construction elsewhere along I-10 during the late 1970s/early 1980s resulting in rapid growth throughout central Arizona culminating with $1 billion worth of investment since 1990 alone - making it one of most frenetic jobs markets within metro Phoenix...the likes you've never seen before!

Eloy is a small town in the Apache County area of Arizona, United States. The population was 1,998 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Phoenix metropolitan area. The community was named for José Francisco Eloy, a Mexican general who fought in the American Civil War and won fame as an ace fighter. The town began as a cattle station on the Gila River near present-day west Mesa Verde National Park. A post office opened in 1881, and by 1903 it had grown to include a school, store, hotel and other outbuildings. In 1912–13 Eloy became part of the newly formed Arizona Territory after its acquisition from Mexico; it remained so until 1912 when it was annexed by Tucson. In 1920 Eloy had an population of 350 people; by 1930 that number had risen to 2,000 due to Hispanic immigration and ranching activity along the Gila River. During World War II Eloy's local military draft board produced 21 officers who served in various Pacific Theater commands including Okinawa and Iwo Jima; all but one (the late Captain Jack Weaver) eventually returned home after discharge or retirement from service. Some 3% of all Arizonans born during World War II were residents of Eloy-including many drafted into military service during wartime occupations such as construction work on airfields or in agriculture production areas such as Pinal County's Cotton Belt
