The Flagstaff Coast Guard Station is located on Cottonwood Drive in Flagstaff, Arizona. The station was established in 1915 and has been a vital part of the community since that time. Today, the Coast Guard Station provides a wide range of services to the community, including law enforcement and security; environmental protection; and public safety. In addition to its primary responsibilities, the station also operates two boats for use by local fishermen and conducts periodic recreational patrols around the city. The history of the Coast Guard Station in Flagstaff began with a request from Mayor John Harker to create a coastal guard detachment as soon as possible after World War I ended. The first officers who worked at the flagstation were stationed at nearby Porter Ranch. From then until 1945, when it was reassigned to Flagstaff, the station served as both an auxiliary naval training ground for merchant marine cadets and as home for military detachments assigned to various campaigns during World War II. In 1948, when Pima County was created, Headquarters moved from Porter Ranch toFlagstaff under jurisdiction of that county government. As part of this changeover, Headquarters became responsible for all civil defense functions along Pima County’s southern border- encompassing everything from fire prevention through emergency medical services. In 1963, Headquarters relocated again when Clovis AFB opened up central Tucson into its Then Sheriff’s Department Annex on East Broadway Street which gave Headquarters more than just jurisdictional space; it also became home to Patrol Units 1st Battalion (Airborne), 2nd Battalion (Marine), 3rd Battalion (Army) Troop A/C & Dispatcher Squadron #2A which provided coverage within City limits outside DPS patrol boundaries In 1978-79 Commandant Easley ordered all assets ashore at Cottonwood Drv following surface water contamination incident near Point Conception . All assets were re-positioned at Cottonwood Drv when control over Clean Water Unit reverted back to Pima County upon commandant's retirement . Commandant Macartney activated Clean Water Unit on site effective Dec 10th 1978 after finding no other source available for treatment solution due To price gouging by state DWR& Agencies By mid Jan 1979 most clean water unit had been completed & system working satisfactorily

Flagstaff, Arizona is a city in the United States of America. The population was 1,986 at the 2010 census. It lies on the Mohave River in east-central AZ and is part of the Phoenix metropolitan area. Flagstaff was founded by George W. Black on July 24, 1912 as a station on the Central Arizona Railroad. The name comes from Englishman John Hawkins's observation that "the sun never sets on the mountaintop" and it has been reported that Black named his new town after Mount Weathers, an American Indian chief who had won fame for his resistance to Spanish colonialism. The Central Arizona Railway built a line through Flagstaff from 1912 to 1915 and again in 1919; both lines served as tracks leading into central Phoenix. In 1926, Flagstaff became an incorporated city with its own government and first mayor, Jules Ivey. At first it consisted of just a few buildings near downtown; but over time it grew rapidly with waves of new immigrants arriving until its population topped 20,000 by 1938. This growth led to problems: scarce land made building homes difficult and required permits; access to transportation limited many residents to working in downtown businesses or commuting long distances; social hostilities between different groups led to periodic riots or violence; and crime rates were high enough that some people felt they needed to leave their communities for safety reasons alone (Flamingo 1999). In 1949 City Council approved plans for what would become Mountain View Elementary School—the first public school in Flagstaff—and soon afterward plans were underway for what would becomeFlagstaff Community College (FCC), which opened its doors in 1951 as one of only two colleges open statewide at that time outside of California’s Berkeley campus. At present there are more than 30 universities located throughout Flagstaff County including six within city limits: University of Phoenix Stadium (home field of the Phoenix Suns professional basketball team) is home to FC Tucson Athletics while Sun Devil Stadium hosts Arizona State University’s football program and NCAA Division I wrestling teams among others Flagstaff also features several ski resorts including Aspen Open Ski Resort & Snowboard Park located east-northeast of town off Interstate 10 near Aspen Village Shopping Center while Mt Bachelor National Forest can be found about 15 minutes away southeast via Apache Junction Road off Interstate 8
