Florence, Arizona is a small town located in Mohave County, Arizona. The population was 1,713 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Phoenix metropolitan area. The community was named after Florence, Italy. It has a history dating back to 1875 when prospectors discovered gold and silver in what is now Florence. A post office called Florence was established in 1876, and remained in operation until 1912. The community's first school was built in 1882. In 1916, the town had a population of 100 and a drinking water system providing potable water for all residents. In 1922, Florentine families moved into what is now known as the Florence Industrial Park which included seven corn cribs used by local farmers for corn feedstock production; these were followed by other industrial developments including a steel plant (1924) and an aircraft factory (1929). The decline of production at these factories led to declining taxes on property values and social stability; this led to some residents moving out of Florence while others fought unsuccessfully against annexation by Phoenix in 1934-35 which would have resulted in more than doubling the population to 2,000 people present today within walking distance of downtown Florence! In 1941-42 during World War II many jobs were lost due to Pearl Harbor but reactivated with refresher training after hostilities ceased; however most jobs did not return home until 1946 when resources resumed following another war boom only to be eroded again during economic recession following global depression that finished 1939-40= As early as 1951 there were plans for developing either new land or redeveloping old properties such as mill buildings on Pima Street eastward intoerville southeast towards Camelback Road forming an enclave/suburb originally called "The Ghetto" still extant today outside of downtown Florence with similar demographics although much less visible than it once did

The population of Florence was estimated at 9,500 residents in 2010, making it one of the most populous towns in the Phoenix Area. Florence has been inhabited by people for over 10,000 years and is considered to be one of the oldest communities in Arizona. In 1912, Florence was founded by Italian immigrants who had come to America seeking a better life. The history of Florence begins with its founding as a small Mexican farmstead called Santa Fe de la Paz. Santa Fe de la Paz was abandoned in 1881 after Mexican General Antonio Lopez Estrada captured it during the Chiricahua War. The pioneers who founded Florence were white men from Indiana and Illinois who came to what was then known as Apache Land on November 1, 1887. They named their new community after Giuseppe Flaminio (1799-1857), an Italian general who fought against Mexico during the Mexican-American War. The first post office opened in Florence on November 14, 1888. By 1907, there were twenty-five churches located throughout the town and over ninety businesses had been organized into four categories: groceries and provision stores; mercantile enterprises; real estate; and educational institutions including two high schools and one college.. The first store building was built at Fourth Street and McDowell Avenue in 1908. In 1916, when Arizona became a state, Florence voted to become its capital city.. The following year saw an influx of Italians who had come to work on government projects such as road building or water supply systems. As trade grew between America and Italy during World War I (1914-1918), more Italians began coming to Florentine shops looking for goods they could not find back home due to rationing restrictions placed upon England by her war allies France and Russia.. When World War II began on September 3rd 1939 – less than one week after US entry into World War One – many expatriates returned home but many others decided stay put because they believed that fascism would not prevail in Europe despite Germany’s aggressive military moves towards Austria Pradesh Hungary etcetera.. When Mussolini became president of Italy on April 6th 1925 he nationalized all private enterprise which led to mass poverty among working class Italians across much of central Italy including southern California where employment opportunities remained good thanks largely to American investment . After Mussolini’s downfall “Fascistnormality” reigned with social unrestrained violence as industrial production increased while unemployment soared especially amongst young workers without any meaningful access eitherto education or economic opportunity….
