Thanks largely to these efforts over time Phoenix has seen an increase in its population which now stands at more than 2 million people! Today’s economy is based on technology companies such as Google & Apple who have all chosen Fountain Hills for their headquarters or research facilities aroundtown; it has also been known for its aerospace industry production since 1978 when Lockheed Martin moved their corporate headquarters from Tucson Heights (near Scottsdale) to nearby Mesa because they couldn't find space anywhere else in Phoenix! Fountain Hills is founded on October 15, 1907 by George W. White and his wife Ada Cushing as a small town named after Fountain Hill in Edinburgh, Scotland. In 1912 the name was changed to Fountain Hills because of objections from other towns in Pima County that had similar names such as Phoenix and Glendale. The first post office for Fountain Hills opened on November 17, 1912. In 1914 the city limits were expanded to include present day parts of Mesa and Gilbert counties. The first school was built in 1917 on what is now White Drive near West Speedway Boulevard. The current elementary school building opened in 1948 and the high school building opened in 1957. In 1916 Bruce Ladd became Mayor of Fountain Hills; he served until 1951 when he was succeeded by Eunice Heald who held the position until her death in 1966.. In 1927–28 work began on remodeling both schools into modern buildings with tile roofs and central driveways designed by architect Harry Chandler which were completed in 1929-30; these buildings are still used today as elementary/junior high schools and also house City Hall (renamed Administration Building upon its conversion to an office complex). Work also began on enlarging McIntyre Park which would later become known as North Park; this project was completed in 1933-34 before being sold to the city for use as parkland north of Interstate 10 freeway
