The Goodyear Coast Guard Museum has a rich history of giving back to the community. The museum began as the Goodyear Naval Militia Museum in 1912, and since then, it has been a fundraiser for local charities and organizations. In 1952, the Goodyear Coast Guard Auxiliary was created to support the Coast Guard. In 1984, the museum opened its doors to the public and became part of Goodyear's city government. Today, the museum is home to more than 2,000 artifacts from Goodyear's maritime history. The first donation from Goodyear's city government was an old clipper ship called "the Fanny" which had been donated by Mayor William J. Macartney in 1907. The ship served as a floating library forGoodyear City Schools until 1956 when it was given away to the city for use as a municipal aquarium. In 1976, Mayor Don Youngdon funded construction of what would become known as "the Don Youngdon Library." The library was designed by noted architect Bruce Hagerman and built on land that once belonged to Don Youngdon's father-in-law, John Fitzgerald Stevenson. The building is now used as both the museum shop and office space for Good Year City Hall. In 1984, town employees donated their uniforms and gear to be used in training exercises with Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department at Long Beach Municipal Airport near Downtown Los Angeles (now CenturyCity). This event marked the beginning of an annual relationship between Good Year and LASD that continues today. The Goodyear Coast Guard Station has been a part of the Goodyear Municipal Corporation since 1909. The station was established as the Harbor Board Department on July 1, 1909. It was renamed the Coast Guard Station Goodyear on October 1, 1912. On December 12, 1916,Goodyear became a city and the station became part of the City Hall Annex which is now known as City Hall. The Coast Guard Station Goodyear played an important role in law enforcement during World War II. They helped to smuggle weapons and other materials into the war effort by running cargo trains from Goodyear to Phoenix through Union Pacific Railroad yards in north Phoenix. In 1951, Goodyear became a state Junior College and also had its own police department which was later merged with Arizona State Police. In 1974,Goodyear became an incorporated city and once again had its own police department. On November 2nd of that year,City Council voted to make all local police officers uniformed with DPS plates instead of just badges and guns while they awaited approval from DPS for their new uniforms which were finally given to them on December 15th After years of working hard at it,the Goodyears opened their first ever store inside City Hall on October 5th of 2003

The city was founded in 1912 by John Goodyear and became one of the fastest-growing cities in Arizona. Goodyear's economy relies largely upon agriculture and manufacturing. Goodyear first attracted settlers when John Goodyear founded the town of Goodyear on February 14, 1912, east of Tucson. He named it after his company's product, "Goader Tire." By 1920, Goodyear had become one of the largest cities in Arizona with over 100 residents. In 1932, President Franklin D. Roosevelt designated Good Year as an "International City" due to its prominence in fruit farming and tire manufacture during World War II. In spite being only 8 miles wide at its widest point—smaller than most American metropolises—Goodyear experienced rapid growth from its early days as a small agricultural town until 1940 when it reached its current size as a major urban center with over 1 million people within commuting distance from downtown Phoenix and other large metropolitan areas nationwide. One reason for this growth was availability of land: much prime land throughout northern Pima County had been acquired by ranchers who were expanding cattle operations into new ranges westward into newly developed territory within the state of Arizona that included parts now known as Tempe and Glendale Heights outside Phoenix proper limits but lay within easy reach for farmers seeking access to markets for their products thanks to easy transportation connections through several railroad lines running through central Pima County which then served larger towns such as Flagstaff just east or north of Tempe while also serving smaller villages such as Cottonwood Springs near Yuma on State Route 19 southwesterly across from Prescott along Interstate 10 between Flagstaff and Prescott; these settlements offered opportunities for products such as cottonseed oiled tires, animal feed additives and other items grown on government lands available cheaply or free to farmers who could truck them directly into marketplaces near Tucson or Phoenix where prices were generally lower because there were no intervening mountains between these centers proper and rural communities lying nearer to them where goods could be bought more cheaply without having to go too far away from home).
