The Kingman Air Force Base Historical Museum is a history museum located on the grounds of the Kingman Air Force Base. The museum contains artifacts and memorabilia from the Kingman AFB community, as well as from military and air force activities in Kingman. The first airfield at Kingman was built during World War I by the United States Army Signal Corps to support aviation research. It was abandoned after three years of service. The 2nd Bombardment Group, Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress Squadron (F-5) activated at Kingman AFB in July 1942, flying Boeing B-24 Liberator bombers with 410 aircraftequipment serial numbers. In May 1945, when World War II ended, it became part of the United States atomic bomb program under General George C Marshall and continued operations untilactivated in August 1946 as an inactive unit. In 1949, USAF moved its major command headquarters to RAF Bentwaters Island in southeast England following the end of hostilities in Europe. Following this move also came responsibility for all UCAF facilities within RAF Bentwaters Island including Kingsnake Field which had been leased from Royal CanadianAF since 1941 for use by Bomber Command’s "No 5" flying training squadron equipped with Lockheed P-38 Lightning fighter planes; however no operational flights were ever conducted here due to poor conditions on the island.. Kingman AFB reopened on 1 October 1951 when it became home to Headquarters USAF Ninth Air Force (Air Forces Southeast). As Headquarters USAF 9 AF grew rapidly with AFRTC opening up at nearby Wright-Patterson AFB (later Wright–Patterson National Aeronautics and Space Administration), Kingsnake Field saw limited use until it converted into a Gunnery Range on 15 December 1955 and reopening as an instrument bombing range/bombing terminal complex called Gunston Hall on 20 June 1957 renamed after Colonel Jeffrey Ladd who was Director of Materiel Operations at HQ 9 AF during its early days. At that time Kingsnake Field also served as Headquarters USAAF Pacific Command's Area Of Responsibility for Western Pacific area responsible for defense against any aggressive Korean aggression orionage operations launched by North Korea or China while still supporting NATO allies Japan through their military forces in East Asia! Today Gunston Hall remains active both as an Instrument bombing range/bombing terminal complex and Visitor Center providing historical overviews of how weapons were used here during our era!

Kingman, Arizona is a city in Pinal County, Arizona, United States. The population was 9,616 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Phoenix-Mesa-Scottsdale Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settlers in Kingman were Mormons who arrived in 1847 and established a small community on the east side of what is now downtown Kingman. They named their town after Brigham Young's brother Samuel Folsom (1807–1875). After Brigham Young's death in 1877, his widow Emma gave her two Basque children—José María and Manuela—the land west of downtown to raise as Mormon pioneers. In 1881 they founded City Park on what is now Fourth Street between Oak Drive and Indian School Road. In 1912 Queenie Baca organized the first school district in Pinal County; Kingman was one of its charter members. The city became an incorporated municipality on December 12, 1916. On February 20, 1912 San Francisco Chronicle reporter John Wickersham reported that "Kingman Is On A Roll". He said that: "There has never been anything like it before – business conditions have never been better... People are flocking here from all over because there’s no other place to go." This news report helped spur development around Kingman and aided early efforts by Mayor Domingo Sánchez to attract businesses and create jobs for local residents during the Great Depression years when Phoenix was struggling economically. That same year also saw the opening of the First National Bank Building which served as both headquarters for banks throughout southern Arizona Territory during that time period as well as home to many civic organizations including several fire departments which functioned out of that building until recently In 1924 a new municipally owned phosphate mine opened up just outside town limits with production continuing until 1957 making Kingman one of northern Arizona’s leading phosphate mining communities prior to its current decline since then although some still operate today such as Blue Mesa Mines Incorporated www . bluemesa minesinc . com) while others have closed down including Gold Mine No 4 near present day Superior Avenue within sight of town limits while still others like Empire Mine did not produce any phosphate but produced lead and arsenic minerals intermittently until shuttered circa 2006
Kingman was founded in 1912 by Captain John Kingman and his wife, Emma. The small town grew slowly until the early 1920s when it became a bombing target for the Ku Klux Klan. The Kingmans financed a local library and church which helped to change the town's fortunes. In the 1930s, Kingman became an important uranium mining center and its economy boomed. However, during World War II, Kingman was bombed again and restaurant profits were lost. In the 1950s, Kingman experienced a rebirth as a manufacturing center with new businesses such as Ford dealership and Nike factory opening up. However, in the 1960s and 1970s, crime rates increased and many residents left town. By the late 1990s, while most of its businesses still thrived, Kingman had lost much of its identity due to population decline and lack of resources. However, there are now several restaurants and shops located in downtownKingman that continue to serve as community anchors.
