Kingman, Arizona is a small town in the US state of Arizona. The population was 5,854 at the 2010 census. It is located on the banks of the Gila River and has been known for its irrigated agriculture for over 100 years. The town was first established in 1885 as part of what was then called Prescott County. In 1912, it became a part of Apache County and in 1964 it became a part of Kingman City. In 1984, Kingman City annexed Kingman (and portions of Apache and Moffat Counties) to form the city limits. The population increased from 3,722 in 2000 to 5,854 in 2010. Kingman is home to two universities: Northern Arizona University and Western State University-Phoenix. A major employer is Kirtland Air Force Base which houses most of the units employed by Phoenix-based Sky Harbor Airlines as well as Dole Food Company's Tempe campus; both are within walking distance of each other. There are also several small businesses scattered throughout downtown that serve local residents and visitors alike including restaurants, sporting events venues, libraries/theater complexes/, pharmacies/, gas stations/, convenience stores/. The climate here is warm year-round with average summer temperatures reaching up to 42 degrees F (20 degrees C). Today, the Coast Guard plays an important role in keeping our country safe by protecting coastal areas, shipping lanes, and other maritime interests. This act provided for a corps of coast guard officers to be formed "to defend our coasts against all enemies within or without the United States." It was not until 1898 that a regular coast guard was formed. At this time, it was decided that a navy would not be able to provide enough security on America's open seas. To make up for this lack of naval capability, Congress authorized donations from various states specifically for the purpose of building a lighthouse service on every US shoreline. In 1922-23, Congress created three new branches: public works (the Civilian Conservation Corps), procurement (the Federal Maritime Commission), and research (the National Aeronautics and Space Administration). With these changes came responsibility for different parts of coastline protection-from weather observation to marine science experiments-and also an increased need for specific types of vessels such as searchlights and hurricaneboats. In 1934-35 President Franklin D Roosevelt established what is now known as Homeland Security which grew out of his desire to prevent potential terrorist attacks on American soil before they could happen. Since 9/11/2001 there has been an increase in homeland defense needs due to terrorism threats around the world; however gifts have remained largely symbolic in nature apart from some select items such as commandos gear or USS Constitution Museum ship model ships which are given as special appreciation Awards or Gifts at large ceremonies like Governors' Meetings or Presidential Inaugurations etc.. Kingman, Arizona is a small town in Pinal County, Arizona, located about 50 miles east of Phoenix. The population was 3,878 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Phoenix-Mesa-Scottsdale Metropolitan Statistical Area. In 1907 Kingman was founded by farmers named Wiley and Florence Kingman on the site of what is now Scottsdale Municipal Airport. The name came from Kingman Peak in Flagstaff County which can be seen from downtown Kingman. The peak is also known as "The Mountain" because it's highest point on the community and served as a post office for many years until it closed in 1984. In 1914 an oil well was drilled in Kingman and production began within a few years. By 1926 Kingman had become the largest town in Pinal County with over 10,000 residents. During World War II much of the manufacturing activity took place at nearby Yuma Arsenal where tens of thousands of troops were trained and then deployed to fight in Europe. After V-E Day (World War II's Victory over Japan) most businesses closed but some reopened including Lowe's Hardware Store which reopened after being closed during World War II due to Defenestration Damages caused by Bombing raids against Hiroshima and Nagasaki
Kingman, Arizona is a city in Pinal County, Arizona, United States. The population was 43,914 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Phoenix metropolitan area. The first thing that people noticed about Kingman were its sandy soils and well-watered climate. The name "Kingman" was given to it by local ranchers because the town sat on a hill that could be seen from all around Kingman Valley. In 1887, Indian traders living in what is now Apache Junction named their new town after Chief John Cattleman of the Wichita Native American tribe because he had helped them find water shortages near Phoenix. In 1907, Harry Bartlett built an east-west road through KINGMAN VALLEY so people could get to Apache Junction easier and cattle prices went up due to this trade route being open more often than other routes. By 1916, KINGMAN had a post office and two stores. In 1924, Hoot Gibson reestablished kingman's role as a trading center when he began buying goods needed for his ranch near Coyote Springs from Apaches living there and bringing them back to Kingman for sale or storage (Gibson also ran some small businesses here). In 1948, President Harry S Truman gave land in central Kingman to the University of Arizona as part of his proposal for federal land redistribution in order to help rural communities receive more access to education resources. The university has since maintained much of that property including adding additional buildings such as a library and student center over time. In 1957–58 when construction began on Interstate 10 between Phoenix and Tucson, KINGMAN became one of several cities along I-10 which were forced into evacuations during construction because they did not have enough warning about potential danger ahead (the rest of AZ remained unscathed). Immediately following the closure of I-10 in 1993–1994 due to budget cuts by then-President Bill Clinton – which left many parts of Pinal County without transportation – KINGMAN experienced another boom thanks largely to tourism (which had been increasing rapidly across much of Arizona during this time) and licensing opportunities available from I-10 closures (.pdf).. During this period downtownKINGMAN experienced significant renovation with many new businesses coming online includinglive music venues such as Terminal 5 Live Lounge & Grill and DonatellO'Neill's Irish Pub; professional sports teams like the Cardinals football team; multiplexes; etc., filling up many storefronts with high end tenants including Bulgari Jewelers Empire Outlet Center & Saks Fifth Avenue flagship store; Regal Cinemas Scottsdale Stadium 16 - where AMC movie theater chains typically show films outside throughout Phoenix.; etcetera.. but most importantly early 21st century development led by restaurateur Nick Saraceno with his new casual dining concept called 'Cheap Eats'. Kingmans restaurant scene quickly evolved into one known for its freshness produce options paired with simple yet delicious Mexican dishes made fresh daily onsite using only ingredients found locally.. This trend continued until 2014 when Saraceno sold his business outright However since then various restaurants have opened within walking distance or minutes away like Garlic knots farmacia directly across Queen Creek Rd., 50/50 burger place right next door (opened 2015), Pie Face Pizza located just north off State Route 17 about 2 miles west Of Downtown Prescott,. etc... making it difficult if not impossible for anyone other than locals or those who know exactly where every restaurant is located these days
