The Marines first arrived in the area during World War I as part of the 16th Infantry Regiment, which was mobilized to provide support for military forces in Europe. During the war, the Marine Corps stationed units at Camp Bowie, just outside of Phoenix. In 1919, Camp Bowie was renamed Marine Barracks and became home to the 1st Battalion 9th Marines. From 1925-1936, Headquarters and Service Squadron 2 (HS2) located at Naval Station Phoenix served as Commanding Officer’s office for Camp Bowie. In 1936-1939, Headquarters and Service Squadron 4 (HS4) relocated from Naval Station Phoenix to Marine Barracks at Tucson before returning to Naval Station Phoenix in 1939-1940. during World War II Headquarters and Service Squadron 3 (HS3) stationed at Naval Air Station Mesa until relocating again in 1942 to Naval Base San Diego where they remained untilactivation on 7 September 1945). On 15 October 1945 HS3 relocated from San Diego back to its original location within Marine Barracks at Tucson untilactivated on 11 April 1946 following Japanese surrender. On 24 November 1946 Camp Bowie activated as an infantry battalion training camp under Second Lieutenant Colonel Denny Haney posthumously awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for his actions leading Company C of First Battalion 5th Marines during Operation Coronet – Battle of Fallujah on 23 November 1946. On 18 December 1949 Company F detachment from 4th Battalion 9th Marines relieved Company C from Detachment One under Second Lieutenant Colonel John Waddell who had commandeered their equipment while fighting through enemy lines near Anbar Province Iraqi town Najaf while also leading elements into battle against overwhelming odds including machinegun nests along with individual sniper engagement by hostile Iraqis resulting in one killed and five wounded members of company F detachment were decorated with citations including two Presidential Unit Citation’s; First Class Medal Of Freedom; Legion Of Merit; Bronze Star With Palm; Purple Heart; American Defense Award; Combat Action Badge; Good Conduct Medal etc.. In 1951 detached companies K & L reorganized as separate battalions less effective than previous organizations due lack of firing range time together despite sharing barracks facilities personnel skills such as sign language interpretation dogs dog handlers physical conditioning drill instructor hike/climb training air raid shelters demolitions demolition teams mortar fireteam diagramming artillery fight group tactics amphibious assault landing

The area that would become Lake Havasu City was first settled by Puebloans in what is now Apache Junction, Ariz., in 1847. As part of the federal government's land management program known as "Doleman Plan", much of Cochise County was allotted to various Native American reservations through treaties between 1848 and 1912. In 1916–1917 approximately 80% of Lake Havasu Valley were designated as Indian Forest Reserve within Navajo Nation boundaries; this area includes most of what now constitutes Lake Havasu City limits south of Interstate 10 and east of Interstate 17. In 1924–1925 allocations for other areas within Navajo Nation boundaries were made which included much of present-day Phoenix — including portions that now make up Mesa Verde National Park — so that those areas could be used for agricultural production or housing developments without occupying tribal lands reserved for religious observance or hunting seasons only. Because many tribes did not share jurisdiction over certain parts of their ancestral lands they often contended with each other about who should get what resources from these parcels: some tribes received more than others (e.g., Hopi Tribe received more water than Catholic Church). As a result there have been several rounds since 1920s where citizens from surrounding communities have banded together to push for changes to how reservation land was managed in order to give residents access to school buses and groceries while still remaining within tribe bounds; these efforts are often referred to as "the resistance movement". In recent years progress has been made towards creating mixed-use districts around key businesses such as hospitals or shopping malls outside reservation boundaries so that people living near reservations can continue using those services while also benefiting from economic development opportunities offered by neighboring jurisdictions; however this change has faced opposition from some members of local Native American organizations who feel like their rights have not been fully respected since these districts were created outside reservation boundaries
