When the United States Coast Guard was created in 1907, there were only a handful of stations along the Mexican coast. The first Coast Guard Station in Nogales was established on December 14, 1912. The station consisted of a small boat dock and one ranger house. It served as a warning center for fishermen and smugglers who used the area to transport their illegal goods. In 1958, the Coast Guard Station at Nogales became an operational airport when it was donated by President Dwight D. Eisenhower to help improve safety on the Mexican-American border. In 1984, when Arizona became a state, the Coast Guard Station at Nogales became part of the newly created Arizona State Police Department. Since then, it has been an Angels & Airwaves gift shop where customers can purchase items related to maritime law enforcement and aviation history. Today, there are six Coast Guard Stations across America including two in Phoenix which helps support search and rescue operations as well as other missions such as providing security for ports of entry and conducting training exercises with federal agencies like DHS and US Marshals Service

Nogales, Arizona is a small town in the Obregon County of Arizona. The population was 1,813 at the 2010 census. It is located about 25 miles south of Phoenix and 40 miles north of Tucson. The first post office in Nogales was established on November 3, 1861. The name "Nogales" was given to the town by General John P. Garces after his victory over Mexican forces at Nacoochepec near what is now Nogales. In 1916, Nogales became the seat of Obregon County when it was organized from parts of Cochise and Pima counties. At that time, Cochise and Pima were consolidated into one county for lack of a other village or center for administration. NOGALES TOWN CEMETERY: This cemetery is located within the limits of the Township of NOGALS where it has been since 1876 . A total of 296 graves are included in this unmarked cemetery that surrounds a small parkland area which contains two large water tanks used for cooling people during summertime . There are also several small cemeteries scattered around town but only a few have markers erected . GARDEN OF GOOD WILL: This garden began as an outdoor playground for children in 1929 and continued to be used until 2002 when it was closed due to lack of funding by the city fathers who felt that such an important public resource should continue to be maintained by local taxpayers rather than being subsidized by city government coffers

Nogales, Arizona is a small town in Pima County, Arizona. It is located on the edge of the Navajo Nation and it is part of the Tucson metropolitan area. The population was 5,898 at the 2010 census. The name Nogales comes from Spanish meaning "New Town". In 1881, Cochise Indian Chief Manuel Garcia proposed that Nogales be named after General George Armstrong Custer who had died in 1876 during the Mexican–American War. However,zoners wanted to honor American heroes such as Kit Carson and Tomahawk John (the first white settler) rather than a Spaniard. The history of Nogales goes back to prehistoric times when sites dating back to 10,000 BC were discovered in this area. This location was then known as Chihauañáhuacán or Chihuahua Canyon because it was thought to be full of water sources and trade routes for Native Americans and settlers alike. The city began its development around 1900 when Mexicans started moving into what is now Pima County to find new land for their families and businesses. In 1915, Nogale was founded as a trading post by Colonel Edward Swayne which became an important center for cross-country commerce between Mexico City and Tucson. By 1924, there were over 100 businesses in Nogale with a population of 3,500 people; however, World War II caused many businesses to close until 1945 when they reopened after the war ended. In 1949, Major General James Ewart Stilwell led U.S.-Mexican peace negotiations which resulted in the establishment of Tuba City as the primary border crossing point between Arizona and Mexico due to growing tensions over control of northern Baja California (now California). After years of development work by local citizens along Alma Road – still one of the most popular tourist destinations in town today – construction began on what would become homeowning mayor Don Freeman’s first clinic building on February 14th 1960; later renamed University Hospital after Arizona State University purchased ownership from Northern Arizona Telephone Company – one of seven companies that participated in Health Communications Incorporated (HCI), an early electronic health care provider serving Phoenix/Mesa/Scottsdale areas In 1999 Downtown Development Authority designated Old Town Square downtown business district; under Mayor Freeman's leadership this district boundaries expanded eastward from Alma Rd., beyond First Ave., southward onto Third Ave., northward onto Fourth Ave., westward onto Fifth Ave., northeast onto Seventh Ave., eastbound onto Eighth Ave.; totalsquare = 111 blocks AOPA Airport hangar Open! Nogales was founded in 1912 by the Nogales City Council as the first town in what is now Arizona. The name means "cold water fort" and this was likely because of the nearby freezing river that provided a safe haven for traders during times of drought. In 1933, Nogales became an independent city and it retained its status as a Gateway to the West until 1973 when it became part of Phoenix.
