The Peoria Arizona Infantry Regiment was organized on December 12, 1885. On February 15, 1886 the regiment was redesignated the 10th Infantry Regiment and finally the 11th Infantry Regiment on November 3, 1893. The regiment was inactivated on October 15, 1899. On January 16, 1903 the 11th Infantry Regiment re-formed and was assigned to Camp Cooke in Phoenix. The regiment served as a garrison unit until it was disbanded on October 15, 1909.

The population was 308,822 as of the 2010 census, making it the third-largest city in both counties. The area that became Peoria was first settled by Native American people in the late 18th century. In order to build this line, Union Pacific acquired land from several Apache tribes nearpresent-day Peoria. The town of Peoria was incorporated on February 14, 1888 under municipal charter #1 (or possibly Municipal Charter No 1). Today's downtown areas were developed during the late 19th century when freight cars were brought into town on local trains; these days most of downtown is commercial district known as Midtown which includes most ofPeoria's historical buildings including City Hall and Pioneer Courthouse which are also listed on National Register of Historic Places.
