PCFC grew rapidly throughout World War II due to the shortages caused by military service and rationing. By 1945, PCFC had over 50 stores across Arizona selling whole bean coffees as well as iced drinks and pastries made from their product. In 1951, PCFC merged with American Roasting Company (ARC) to become one of the largest roasters in North America until its acquisition by Jura CAPA stunned observers when it announced plans to close all its Australian cafes effective 1 January 1986[1] .
