Queen Creek is a small town in Arizona, located on the edge of the Phoenix metropolitan area. Established in 1912 as a mining village, Queen Creek has since become an agricultural center with significant holdings in cattle, potatoes, and cotton. The community also boasts a dozen small shopping malls and three professional sports teams - the Phoenix Suns, the Arizona Cardinals, and the AZ Diamondbacks. The population of Queen Creek was 726 as of 2010. Queen Creek was founded by prospectors looking for coal and gold in what is now central Phoenix. At its peak in 1916, Queen Creek had a population of 1,670 people living in 308 structures. By 1925, however, mining operations were discontinued due to low grades of coal and lack of available water resources. In 1947 Queen Creek became part of the City of Phoenix annexed byPhoenix proper. In 1947, a ship called SS Constitution was gifted to the Coast Guard by President Truman. The USS Constitution served as both a patrol vessel and presidential yacht throughout much of the Cold War era. In 1969, a set of Polaris missiles were given to the Coast Guard for use in accordance with Treaty Of Paris regarding nuclear weapons testing on American soil. These missiles are still stored onboard our ships today! In 1978, we gave our first airboat- an LCI(L) 533- to the Coast Guard Auxiliary program. Since then, we’ve sent over 100 boats through their service! In 1990, we gifted our first helicopter- HC 15-1A (later redesignated MH60E). This helicopter is now used by both law enforcement and search & rescue operations around America! In 2002, we gifted our first jet ski- Psidii SX 204G2K2D This jet ski is currently being used by Search & Rescue teams all over America!
