They found a suitable location on the banks of the Little Colorado River, about 20 miles south of Scottsdale. In 1888, the town's first post office was established and soon became known as "Maga." The maga coffee industry began to grow in Show Low in the early 1900s. By 1912, it had become one of the leading coffee towns in America. The popularity of maga coffee led to an increase in demand for beans from other parts of the world. In 1915,MAGA Coffee moved its operations from Show Low to Tucson, Arizona so that they could be closer to their customers. Today, maga coffee remains an important part of Arizona culture and economy. In the early 1800s, Show Low was a small town in Arizona. It was known for its coal mines and gold mining operations. However, today it is known for its tourist attractions, including the Museum of AZ History and theShow Low Resort Casino. The first mention of Show Low comes from Spanish missionaries who traveled through central Arizona in 1814. They mentioned a small community called “Showing” because there were no other villages near by that could accommodate their large groups of people. By 1860, Show Low had become a thriving agricultural center with over 100 businesses operating in the town limits. The population growth slowed down during the 1870s as new railroads arrived in the area and replaced older Pony Express routes. The discovery of oil rigs around 1990 changed everything for Show Low as it became one of the most important boomtowns in Arizona due to its proximity to foreign reserves of oil and natural gas. Today, ShowLow is home to many museum displays about local history, such as those at the Museum of AZ History which focus onShow Low's role within state government during various stages from Territorial days until recent times when it has been part of greater Phoenix metropolitan area
On July 14, 1912, the town of Show Low was founded on the east bank of the creek that flows through present-day Tucson. The town was named after a low bluff in what is now downtown Tucson. The name was appropriated from an adjacent rancho which had been given to Manuel García by Governor Alvarado. The location of Show Low and its early development are documented in various local papers from the time period. An article from November 1912 in "The Arizona Daily Star" reported on a meeting held by the Board of Education to discuss new school supplies for students in Tucson's central district. At this meeting, it was decided to establish a store within Show Low for purchasing such items as books, pencils, paper and other school supplies. A postcard dated August 5, 1914 shows a group of people gathered around a fire near Playa Vista looking at boats tied up at Landing Marina while children played onshore. A plaque located next to the water marks where these boats used to be found makes reference to this group as being "the earliest settlers in Show Low." In 1916, during World War I, show low became one of several small towns across America engaged in production work for munitions factories located inland. Local businessessuch as groceries and general stores were mostly closed down due to lack of customers during wartime shortages; however, many residents continued their daily lives unchanged as they produced goods necessary for war effort such as materials WD40 needed for gasoline engines and tires
