During World War II torpedoes were used for the first time to destroy enemy submarines rather than using artillery shells which had been effective up until that point because submarines could move quickly under water to escape destruction or attack surface ships while they were reloading their torpedoes! The navy also developed radar technology as well as jet aircraft which helped contribute significantly to America's victory in WWII!
