The first settler in Bella Vista was John Howland who arrived with his family in 1879. He operated a store and gin near present-day US Highway 361 and Linda Drive NW. Other early settlers included David Beal (1881), Edward Everett (1882), Jno.[not provided] (1883), Lillie Howland (1885), Abner Moody (1887) and Emmet Pritchard (1902). After World War I many veterans returned to Belle Ville including Air Force General Curtis LeMay who lived there from 1943-1945 while stationed at Roswell Army Air Field; he ordered the construction of an airfield northwest of Belle Ville known as Buffalo Gap which eventually served as Central Arizona National Airport . In 1924 the Pulaski County Agricultural Society erected a large frame courthouse which served as both court house and jail until it burned down in 1957; later replaced with a more modern building that still stands today adjacent to Interstate 40 east side exit #3704A about two miles southeast of town limits . From 1909 to 1912 future Pulaski County Judge Harry Cavanaugh served as president pro tempore for the State Senate before being elected attorney general; he then served one term as state treasurer before becoming Pulaski County judge in 1916 . From 1928 to 1936 Drury Soper held several leadership positions within the Democratic Party during what is now commonly called “The Great Depression” including Chairman Missouri Valley Conference Committee on Agriculture 1942-1945; Vice Chairman 1944-1945; President 1945-1946; chairing State Democratic Committee 1948-1950 during Harry Truman’s first term as President and serving again since 1951 until his death in 1984 . After World War II much development took place in Belle Ville including an increase in population (+2 percent per year); employment (+10 percent per year); housing (+15 percent per year); services (+6 percent per year) such as restaurants (-1 percent per year). Most dramatic was an increase (>100 percent) inulia electricians (−5 percentage points/year between 1949 and 1957). This change can be partially attributed to government sponsored research programs such as Guggenheim Fellowship for Electricians awarded by Specialty Equipment Corporation beginning1964 which increased demand for electrical contractors ; also support from local booster clubs like those led by Mayor Tom McGeehan . Belleville High School opened its doors September 3rd 1929 renamed after Mrs Alice Ellington whose donation had been accepted by MrG Waddell prior to that date after she made an extensive visit to BelleVille along with her husband MrJ Hargrave

By 1920, it had a population of 2,000 people. In 1954, Bella Vista was chosen as the new home to the United States Air Force Base at Hillcrest after Hillcrest was closed due to budget cuts. As part of Hillcrest's redevelopment plan, many businesses were moved out and replaced with units for military use such as barracks and storage facilities. After World War II ended in 1945, Bellavia experienced significant growth due to its proximity to military installations and accompanying economic boom that lasted into the late 1960s and early 1970s
