In 1969 Blandy Fenton took office as mayor after serving two terms as deputy mayor under then-Mayor John Crouch. In 1978 Fenton was elected mayor after defeating incumbent Harry Burnett; he remained in office until his death on November 5th, 2003). He is buried at Springdale Cemetery.
