Blytheville, Arkansas is a city located in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 24,811 at the 2010 census. The first settler in what would become Blytheville was A.P. Goodfellow on November 15, 1871. Goodfellow named his town "Blytheville" for his daughter Blanche who resided there at that time. Although there are references to settlers living near present day Blytheville as early as 1872, it wasn't until 1889 when Gentry W Pemberton laid out a town lot on which he would later build his cotton gin and general store; these two structures remain today (and still operate) as part of downtown Blytheville's history and architecture! In 1896, William McKinney became governor of Arkansas and decided to move the capital from Little Rock to Arkadelphia so that Kathanborough Hall could be used as a state capitol building instead of Pinnacle Knob. On March 3, 1898, McKinney designated Blytheville as the new capital of Arkansas with Kathanborough Hall becoming its first official building In 1902 construction began on what would become known as "The Wall" high school which replaced downtown's only existing high school (Pinnacle Knob).
