Cabot Coffee Company was founded in 1892 by Captain John A. Cabot, a veteran of the Spanish-American War. The company grew rapidly and in 1916 it merged with New England Coffee Company to become the first national coffee company. In 1954, the company became a subsidiary of United Foods Corporation. In 1987, United Foods Corporation merged with Nabisco Inc., creating what is now Kraft Foods Incorporated. The company was sold to Jamba Juice Companies in 2013 and is currently being operated as part of Veggie Enterprises LLC.
Cabot is a town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 1,482 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Little Rock-North Little Rock-Pulaski, AR Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first European to sight this area was Giovanni da Verrazzano on July 3, 1498 while sailing his voyage along the Louisiana coast. He named the spot "Cabo" after John Cabot, an Englishman who had sailed to North America in 1501 and named what he found there "America." John Cabot's grandson Amerigo Vespucci also explored this region in search of a new route to Asia by land or sea and arrived in Florida about 1275. In 1524 Spanish explorer Hernando de Soto discovered what may have been Arkansas' present day border with Mexico when he passed through here on his way from Mexico City to Panama City. De Soto named the area Alta California after himself and his army's victory over indigenous forces at Tlatelolco on October 18 of that year. A later Mexican settlement called San Miguel de Allende emerged nearby before being abandoned for lack of water in 1836 during the Mexican–American War. In 1869 entrepreneur George Waggoner established a cattle ranch that became one of Arkansas' most successful businesses and led to its nickname as "The Great Western Ranch". The town began growing rapidly around Waggoner's property as people flocked to find jobs on hisranch and other frontier businesses such as livery services, groceries, mining and logging operations. By 1899 Cabot had become one of Arkansas' largest towns with a population of 20,000 people; it was still classified as a small rural town by 2000. The railroad arrived in 1902 providing increased access to goods for local farmers and ranchers; it led to an increase in manufacturing activities including agriculture (pulp mills) and engineering (the first school docketing office). Manufacturing production peaked during World War II but declined following the war due to competition from oil exploration and development eastward acrosss Oklahoma into Texas; however nonmanufacturing activity has continued since then although modestly so due primarily to changes brought on by technological advances like hydraulic fracturing which has opened up much more remote parts of Appalachia
