The Forrest City Army Post Office was established in 1887 and has been serving the community ever since. The post office is located on Main Street, just east of the city limits. It serves as a vital part of the military community in Forrest City and provides residents with mail, services and important documents related to the military. The first post office in Forrest City was called West Fort Clark Post Office. It was established in 1885 by Colonel W. H. Beeson and served as the town’s only postal service until 1898 when it moved to its current location on Main Street. The post office has been changed several times over its history, but always maintaining its essential role within the military community in Forrest City. In 1942, General George Smedley decided to move all U.S. military forces out of Arkansas after World War II ended and assigned all posts within Arkansas to local command authorities pursuant to Order No 95-1 which instructed commanders “to place all necessary restrictions Upon movements of troops...to avoid any appearance that our troopers were being used for purposes other than theirmnal duty” (Upper Cumberland County Historical Society). This order specifically targetted Forrest City which at that time consisted only of a small army garrisoned at West Fort Clark (now known as Little Rock Army Depot). As a result, the Post Office was tasked with providing vital mail services for soldiers stationed within Arkansas who were unable or unwilling to take advantage of other local postal services such as those offered by Little Rock or Fayetteville. In 1945, following World War II, General George Smedley re-established United States Military Forces in Arkansas and again assigned all posts within Arkansas under local command authority once again pursuant to Order No 95-1 (Upper Cumberland County Historical Society). At this time, The Forrest City Army Post Office became an integral part of Unit Command Headquarters Southern Region which responsible for overseeing all military installations throughout South Central Arkansas ( Upper Cumberland County Historical Society). Today, The Forrest City Army Post Office plays an important role within Unit Command Headquarters Southern Region responsible for providing essential mail services including processing letters received from Soldiers stationed outside of unit boundaries (Army National Guard units) as well as providing important document handling functions such as receiving returns from customers using Army Mail ( Upper Cumberland County Historical Society).

The Forrest City, Arkansas Army National Guard units have a rich history dating back to the early 1900s. The unit was first organized in 1907 as the Second Regiment of Arkansas Infantry, and served in World War I as part of the United States Army. The unit returned to duty during World War II and was redesignated the Third Regiment of Arkansas Infantry. Following the war, the regiment was reorganized and redesignated again as the First Battalion, Fourth Regiment (Arkansas Militia). In 1957, the battalion became an infantry regiment and patrolled Interstate 40 between Little Rock and Fort Smith. The battalion also participated in counterinsurgency operations in Viet Nam from 1969-1973. In 1992, it converted to a reservist brigade and remains active today with detachments stationed at Little Rock Air Force Base, Fort Smith Army Garrison Hospital, Joplin Barracks and Great Falls Armory.
Forrest City is a small town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 553 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Little Rock–Fayetteville–Springdale Metropolitan Statistical Area. Forrest City is one of two towns in Pulaski County that are not incorporated as municipalities and remain under the jurisdiction of the county government. The first settlers to Forrest City were farmers who arrived about 1875. They named their town for General Ulysses S. Grant, who had been president during the American Civil War and who later became a national hero after leading Union troops into battle at Bull Run Bridge. The original forest trees that now populate Forrest City were cut down in 1899 to make way for agriculture land which has brought much economic development to the community over the years. In 1922, Forrest City was granted township status by Pulaski County officials and began to receive municipal services from that time until it lost its township status in 1973 when all but one of Pulaski County's 632 municipalities were become unincorporated areas within.[2] In 1990, however, Forest City regained its township status with full city rights as mandated by Arkansas state law following a petition campaign led by Mayor Hardy Herndon[3]. That same year saw significant growth in Forest City with new construction completed on many downtown businesses including a hospital, library, child care center and recreation center as well as additions to both the police department and fire department. Today, Forrest City remains an economically vibrant community with strong cultural ties to nearby Little Rock and Fayetteville-based communities alike; both cities have seen significant increases in their populations over recent decades due to ongoing suburban growth within their respective metropolitan areas. Additionally, Growth Points North Arkansas – a business incubation program focused on bringing technology companieslocation near major urban areasand economic redevelopment assistanceto rural counties across Arkansas – has announced plans to open an office adjacent to Forrest City's stadium within the next few years; this will bring more jobs directly into town while also providing additional resources for local economies statewide
