The Thomson's desired to provide safety for their family and their property while trading goods with the surrounding area. The history of the Coast Guard in Forrest City can be traced back to 1915 when Captain John P Thomson established a coast guard detachment at Fort Smith as part of United States Army involvement in World War I. In 1922,Captain Thomson organized a new coast guard detachment for Forrest City known as "The First Texas". In 1928-29 Captain Coker organized another detachment called "The Second Texas" which became active off Swatoka Point near Texarkana Heights after Coxey Bridge was destroyed by Hurricane Allen (1928). Captain Cooks second detachment served until 1942 when they were replaced by the present day unit "Fort Worth (Texas) based." This unit served until 1969 when they were transferred to Ft Worth (Texas) based command post located at Enterprise Naval Air Station where they remain today as one of America’s oldest military oceanographic units

Forrest City is a small town located in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 1,362 at the 2010 census. Forrest City is part of the Little Rock–Fayetteville–Springdale Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlement in what is now Forrest City was called "Goudy", after General James Goudy, who served as a Brigadier General in the Union Army during the American Civil War and later became a landowner in Pulaski County. Goudy's Creek ran through central Forrest City and provided water to settlers near present-day North Park and Garland avenues. In 1871, Colonel J.T. Haskell purchased 640 acres of land east of Goudy Creek from David Hines for $5 per acre ($20 total). Haskell named his new community Fort Worth because he thought it would be a more successful town than Goudy which had been failing since its inception. In 1881, three men - John Wesley Hardesty, Wm Sibley Morton and George Washington Goodyear - donated 3 acres (1 hectare) each to build an academy for boys called the Forest Home School (). This school continued until 1942 when it merged with nearby White Sulphur Springs Academy to form First Baptist Church School (). At that time, First Baptist also became one of only two churches in Pulaski County that received state funding for education (). The other church was Springdale Methodist Episcopal Church (). One important event during Forrest City's early years was the establishment on October 25th, 1886 of Arkansas State Normal College (), then known as Arkansas Agricultural University (), by Governor Crouch and President Chester Atherton (). The college operated out of a building that still stands on Fourth Street between Bellefontaine Avenue and Interstate 20/Arkansas Highway 14 today. In 1902, Forrest City voted itself incorporation as a city () under Mayor George Pemberton (). As a city, Forrest City made significant progress over the next few years including erecting an official hotel (), paving streets () and establishing fire departments (). On November 7th 1912 (2 days before Thanksgiving), local citizens met at Central High School () to create an organization effort to promote agriculture throughout Pulaski County (); this organization became known as the Farm Bureau Federation of Arkansas () after its merger with another entity several months later -the National Cotton Council of America ()
