Forrest City is a small, unincorporated community in Pulaski County, Arkansas. It was founded in 1907 by Forrest H. Caldwell and his wife, Harriett Caldwell. The community had a population of about 160 people when it served as the county seat for Pulaski County. The last county commissioners meeting took place in Forrest City on December 18, 1984. In 1987, the town was renamed Forrest City Park after its founder's request. The first settler in Forrest City was Forrest H. Caldwell, who arrived with his family from Illinois in 1907. He built a log cabin near the present-day intersection of Ulysses and Delaware Streets during this time frame. A few years later, he moved to what is now the northeast corner of Delaware Street and Ulysses Avenue and erected a larger cabin which he named "Bald Eagle". In 1916, Forrest H. Caldwell along with other farmers formed the Pulaski County Farm Bureau Federation to help promote agriculture within their community boundaries. This association helped develop basic agricultural practices within the area which would soon be used by future residents of Forrest City Park throughout their lives! In 1924, Caldwell sold his interest in Bald Eagle Cabin to local resident George Fenton for $1 per acre! The new owners began developing this land into what is now known as "Forests" neighborhood! In 1957 two young men named Rolland Ferguson and Willie Pemberton bought an eighty-acre tract of land east of Forest Avenue from Mr. Fenton for $10 per acre! They quickly began planting trees on this property and naming it "Forrest City Park". The first soccer game ever played at "ForestCityPark" was between Little Rock Central High School (LRCH) and Southside Christian Academy (SSA) on October 3rd 1959! Butch Jones then became head coach at LRCH/SSA on October 2nd 1960; that game resulted in a 5-0 victory over Central High School (CHL). That inaugural season saw significant progress being made within "ForestCityPark", with many new families moving into the area including those of Mrs., Wanda Dixon whom would go on to become one of Arkansas' most successful businesswomen; her husband Don Dixon would also become very influential within Arkansas politics over the next several decades; they were followed by others such as Jerry Crawford who would serve as Mayor of Little Rock before becoming Governor during the late 1990s; among these early settlers are still living there today some 100+ years later!
