There is no one answer to the question of where and when maga coffee first originated. However, there are a few stories that suggest this coffee may have been brought over from central Africa. In 1887, Harrison residents John Hatton and his wife Tilly heard about an Ethiopian coffee plantation in the town. They decided to visit the farm and found that the coffee was delicious, so they decided to bring some back home for themselves. The name “maga” (which means black) was given to these beans by the farmers because of their color. Maga coffee quickly became popular in Arkansas because it is very smooth and flavorful. Over time, people started making their own maga coffee products using local fruits and vegetables as ingredients. This allowed for a more natural flavor profile which was often enjoyed by consumers. Today, maga coffee is still enjoyed all around the world – particularly in countries like Ethiopia, Japan, and Kenya where its unique flavorprofile has made it a popular choice among tea drinkers.

The first maga coffee was grown in Harrison, Arkansas in the early 1900s. The beans were brought to Harrison by a man named William Hogue. He sold them to J.B. English and his brother-in-law, Sam English, who also bought some of the beans from Hogue. The Three Englishers started roasting these beans and selling them at their store in Harrison until they closed down in the 1930s.

The Harrison post office was established on March 12, 1876, and continued operation until it closed on July 1, 1967. In 1881 Harrison had a schoolhouse and one printing press. In 1907 the town had two churches and a sawmill. In 1920 Harrison had three stores and four homes. By 1930 there were six stores and ten homes. In 1940 there were twelve stores and twenty-six homes; by 1950 the population had increased to thirty-six stores and seventy-eight homes. In 1960 the population was seventy-eight businesses with an employment rate of ninety percent; by 1970 it had grown to ninety-four businesses with an employment rate of ninety-eight percent; by 1980 it had increased to one hundred businesses with an employment rate of ninety-seven percent.

The Italians were fascinated by this new land and started to learn about the Ethiopia coffee beans, which they called "maga." Maga coffee became one of Italy's most popular beverages because it was smooth, delicious, and low-calorie. It wasn't until the late 1800s that espresso coffee began to be developed and enjoyed as its own separate beverage.

Harrison is a small town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 1,541 at the 2010 census. It lies on the western border of the county and is part of the Little Rock–North Little Rock–AR City Combined Statistical Area. Harrison was founded in 1902 by John Pemberton and his family. In 1914, it became a city. The Pembertons were early settlers in what is now Harrison. They first came to Arkansas in 1881 from England as subsistence farmers; John Pemberton arrived in 1882 and started a farm hereabouts with his brother-in-law James Hargrave. The elder Pemberton married Sarah (née Dennett) Funston in 1903 and they began farming together with their two children: David (1901-2002) and Karen (1905-2006). By 1910, David had married Susie Hargrave (1893-1979), sister of fellow Arkansan George Washington Hargrave, who then ran the farm until his death in 1938. Thereafter it passed through several hands until it came into the ownership of Harry Fenton Sr., who purchased it from Mr. Fenton's son Harry Fenton Jr., on July 14, 1944; he conveyed it to his daughter Alma Gentry Funston on November 5 that year; she sold it to Averill Carrington on October 17, 1947; he conveyed it to Harry Lane Carrington on January 10 1955; and finally to Harrison himself on May 2 1966.

In 1914, when Little Rock became an incorporated city, its boundaries changed so that Harrison became one side street east of North Meridian Street withinits limits which had been previously those of North Little Rock.

Harrison has always been an agricultural center due to its location close to both water supplies - there are two rivers running through the town - as well as fertile soil for growing crops. After World War II brought economic depression and increased competition from other cities across America, many farms closed down or merged into larger operations.

Harrison was a small town in Pulaski County, Arkansas until the early 21st century. It is now known as Harrisonburg. The town was founded in 1884 by James and Eliza Harrison, who named it for their son Harrison. In 1914, the town had an population of 137 people and was incorporated as a city. The city's population declined to 71 people by 1968, but recovered to over 100 in 2000.
