Helena West Helena is a small town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 2,291 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Little Rock-North Little Rock-South Little Rock Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was founded in 1881 by Helena and her husband John West. John W. Coleman also founded a sawmill there in 1889. Helena's daughter Alma married James Henson and the community became known as Alma Henson Junction after their marriage. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , all of it land. As of the census of 2000, there were 2,291 people, 712 households, and 599 families residing in the town. The population density was 95 people per square mile (39/km²). There were 814 housing units at an average density of 46 per square mile (19/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 97% White; 1% African American; 0% Native American; 0% Asian; 0% from other races; and 1% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3%.

Helena West Helena is a small town located in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 2,627 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Memphis Metropolitan Statistical Area. HelenaWest Helena is named after Helena Biddle Childs who relinquished her land to the town in 1893. The history of HelenaWest Helena goes back to 1836 when General James Wilkinson erected a flour mill on what is now Childs Road. In 1853, Mrs. John Auld donated two lots for the school district and a cotton gin was built on lot No. 1 in 1863 by Mr. Wm Hite & Son for $2,500+. By 1870, there were twenty-one residents in the community which included ten girls and eleven boys attending school together under one roof! In 1892, Mrs. Biddle Childs conveyed her land to the town of HelenaWest Helena forwood three cents an acre (approximate size at that time). The Federal Land Bank accepted this donation with conditions that no buildings could be erected until a water pipeline had been constructed from nearby Springdale and that “the name of our town shall never be given to any other place within our limits” This beautiful village began its existence as a small farming community with only twelve homes and one store! In 1916-17, due to World War I scarce materials being available for building new homes or repairing existing ones, many people chose instead to live in tents pitched along School Street which became known as “Homesick Hell”! After much discussion among local officials about erecting permanent housing – especially since transportation was so unreliable during wartime – it was decided by vote that a number of east side lots across from Central High School would become apartments! These flats are still extant today and offer excellent views of downtown Memphis! Through hard work over many years by many individuals/groups including: Mayor Tom Bearden; City Councilman Floyd Coker; Dr Pepper Company representatives Hugh McGeehan & Jerald Hummel; Rotary Club President Roy Bradley; boosters Doug Lambiske & Bud Sprague; Community Development Corporation Board member Billy Hutchinson - Helen West Helena has seen some amazing changes including becoming an all-girl high school (Helen West High), establishment of recreation/leisure facilities such as basketball courts/fitness center etc., increasing commercial activity (eighty percent increase between 2000-2010) as well as numerous homebuilding projects which have brought more than 7500 individual jobs directly to the area!
The Helena West Helena community was established in the early 1900s, when a group of men and women who had moved to Arkansas from Missouri came together to form a town. The name is derived from the Helena National Forest, which was located just outside of town. The first store in town, operated by Gertrude and Harry Beall, opened in 1907. In 1912, HelenaWest Helena became an incorporated city. In 1916, the city built its first library and it still functions today as one of the largest public libraries inArkansas. In 1960, the city annexed neighboring Bentonville and renamed itself Helena West Helena City government included both local governments within its boundaries
