The Little Rock Coast Guard Museum has been collecting and displaying coast guard gifts since the late 1800s. In 1897, the first Coast Guard Station in Little Rock was established. The station was used to provide safety for sailors and fishermen on the Arkansas River. Gifts from the community were donated to the Coast Guardsmen at this station. In 1951, a new Coast Guard Station was built in downtown Little Rock. This station served as the Headquarters for all of theLittle Rock Coast Guard Districts. gift history from this era can be found at the museum. In 1971, a new building was constructed next to the old Headquarters in downtown Little Rock. This building became known as The State House Annex and housed many different departments within the state government including Law Enforcement, Planning and Development, Corrections, and Library services among others. It is through this annex that most of our gift history from this era can be found! Today, The State House Annex is home to several different departments within the state government as well as many displays related to local emergency response times throughout town during natural disasters like hurricanes or earthquakes!
