The army gift history in Magnolia, Arkansas dates back to the early days of the state. The first soldiers to arrive in Arkansas were brought over by General David Garrick in 1814. He and his men were part of the Missouri Compromise and were not allowed to keep any slaves. This led to a conflict between the white settlers and the black soldiers. In order to avoid a civil war, General Garrick decided to send his men home. However, this did not stop other commanders from sending gifts back home. One such commander was John Chilton who donated thirty cannons and four hundred rifles to the military in 1818. By 1861, there were more than five thousand soldiers living in Magnolia County. The economy was very different then and most people here did not have access to weapons or money for gifts. In 1862, Confederate forces invaded Arkansas during the American Civil War. The town of Magnolia was quickly evacuated and many residents took refuge inside Fort Smith until things calmed down. When the war ended, many of these soldiers returned home with their families but some stayed behind because they wanted to fight against America’s new government. Some of these veterans formed militias that fought in battles such as Battle of Little Rock on April 14th, 1865. At least three people died during this battle- including one general who surrendered without having been captured alive! Today, there are still active units within the army stationed here in Magnolia County- as well as a few dozen pensioners who live hereabouts (mostly female). It’s interesting that Army tradition continues even after so many years sinceriegen ended- something that is really unique among U S Military Forces abroad!

The Magnolia Arkansas Army National Guard unit has a long and proud history of service to the state. The unit was formed in 1917 as the 1st Infantry Battalion, Arkansas National Guard. It served in World War I under the command of General John J. Pershing and helped defeat the Ottoman Turks at Gallipoli. In World War II, the battalion fought in Normandy, France and Italy. After the war, it was placed inactivated but reactivated in 1965 as part of Arkansas' mobilization for Vietnam. During that time, it served as an infantry regiment within the 3rd Infantry Division stationed in South Vietnam until its return home in 1975. The battalion then serve operationsin Texas before being deployed to Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom there in 2009-2010 In 2012-2013, it deployed to Kuwait with fellow units to participate inOperation Neptune's Spear which aimed to retake control of Iraqi oil fields from ISIS militants
Magnolia, Arkansas is a small town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 1,512 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Little Rock–North Little Rock–Stonington Micropolitan Statistical Area. Magnolia is located on U.S. Route 441 east of Arkadelphia and south of Allen. The first settlers in Magnolia were three men from Illinois who arrived in 1859. They named their land "Magnolia" after a large tree near their home in that state. The first store was built there in 1865 by J.F Latham and opened by him and his brother-in-law John Pritchard under the name Pritchard's Store & Grain Emporium. The store became the focal point for trade around this time and served as a social center for the community for many years until it closed its doors in 1998 due to economic decline within Pulaski County overall. In 1876, Wm Henson platted what would become Magnolia Township on land he acquired from David McCulloughs widow Catherine McCulloughs following her husband's death two years earlier while she still lived with him in Springfield, Illinois (then part of Decatur County). She had married him shortly before his death after being refused an engagement to another man at a village dance given by her family friend Ebenezer Holmes (a pioneer settler also from Illinois) which she had wanted because he was then living with another woman at the time; McCulloughs later said that Holmes "made me very unhappy". After selling his interest in the township to others including Fenton Dixon and Moses Newell, Henson moved to Arkadelphia to start a grocery business there with partner James Addison called Addison's Grocery Company Incorporated on December 17, 1881 which soon grew into one of the largest grocery stores west of Interstate 20 when it opened its doors at 9 First Street NW - now known as Trade Mart Place - across from Park Plaza Shopping Center north of I-20W just east of exit 226A off I-40W/Arkadelphia Boulevard south of US 441/Arlington Avenue interchange (now White Sands Road). In 1913 Addison donated all but 5 acres along White Sands Road adjacent to where he now stands to be used as parkland for future students at nearby University Church School; currently that property includes most or all of what remains of Addison's original gift including a large glass building housing student services inside an academic courtyard overlooking both White Sands Road and Arkadelphia Boulevard

The heyday of Magnolia came during World War I when the town became an important transportation hub for goods moving between Arkansas and Texas. During the 1920s and 1930s, large-scale construction projects such as a new school and county courthouse were undertaken in part because of Magnolia's position as one ofthe most important crossroads on the Mississippi River. However, economic downturns throughout the 1940s led to a decline in population and businesses in Magnolia until the late 1960s when it began to experience a resurgence with growth in retail trade and tourism. Since 2000, however, there has been steady declines in both population and economy that have led to concerns about possible loss of character or identity for Magnolia given its current state. In recent years, local organizations have worked to promote awareness of magnolias history, culture, landscape, and potential for revival through education initiatives such as historical walks around town and tastings available at local restaurants
Magnolia was founded in 1892 by Willis A. Magnolia, a rancher and farmer who moved his family to the area from nearby Fort Smith. The Magnolias soon became well-known in the town for their produce, which they sold at local farmers markets and at other local businesses. In 1915, Willis Magnolia donated land to the town for its first library, which is still in use today. In 1925, the Magnolias donated another piece of land to the town for a new cemetery. TheMagnolia Cemetery is one of Arkansas’ most popular tourist attractions.
