Marion is a small town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 2,308 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Little Rock–North Little Rock–Pulaski, AR Metro Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit Marion were French traders and missionaries in 1672. A post office was established in 1868, and by 1875 there were six stores and one storekeeper. In 1899, a school was built and named for Mrs. Sophia Aiken (1848-1925), the first female teacher in Arkansas. In 1907, a blacksmith shop was built on Main Street; it still stands today as the only blacksmith shop in Arkansas. In 1911, the town had two churches: First Baptist Church and Second Baptist Church. In 1920, three farmers became interested in opening a grocery store in Marion; they named it The Farmers' Market Company because they intended to sell groceries not goods needed for farming but items such as hats and clothes that would be sold from their truck stop at the corner of Main and Pleasant Streets. By 1923 there were nine businesses open in Marion; four of them were grocery stores/stores with restaurants attached: The Merchants' Exchange Store (now closed), The Hardware Store (now owner of an adjacent business building), The Grocery Outlet (closed), and Mrs.'s Furniture Store #1 (closed). A post office called "Marion" was established on October 12th 1919 by J F Henson from Union County.,Arkansas with mail sent to Alvarado Springs located near Rogersville.. On October 15th 1929 US Post Office Coyote Creek opened under US Postal Service control after being purchased by P O Box Co Incorporated which also included Federal Land Ownership including Marion having been within gift of P O BoxCo Incorporation until 1944 when it passed into private hands again becoming officially known as "Marion". On November 3rd 1949 Marions General store burned down due to some type fire or careless operation causing many personal items stored therein loss however all occupants escaped without any damage or injury

Marion, Arkansas is located in the southeastern corner of Arkansas. The town was founded in 1881 by John S. Hodge and named for Marion County, Kentucky. It became a small city in 1907 and was renamed for Mrs. Sarah Juhl after she donated land to make the city. The population of Marion was 10,000 in 1910 and more than 25,000 by 1930. The cotton industry played a major role in the town’s development and contributed heavily to its economy until the early 1960s when it began to decline due to mechanization and other factors. However, since the late 1990s there has been an increase in development around Marion as new businesses have moved into the area from out-of-state. In addition, Marion has seen an influx of tourists who visit its attractions such as the local waterfowl sanctuary, historical sites such as Fort Smith Union Depot and Fort Gibson National Monument, and museum exhibits about aspects of Little Rock history.
