This store developed into one of the most important businesses in town until it closed its doors in 2006 due to lack of sales and financial troubles. After years of decline and neglect by both business owners and residents alike, Maumelle's history begins again with the construction of a new high school in 2001 which has seen many successes over the years including becoming one of America’s leading education institutions for African Americans Today Maumelle has become known for its unique culture that includes Southern Baptist Christianity as well as its annual Faire (a celebration highlighting arts, crafts and food).

The city of Maumelle, Arkansas was founded in 1871 by two brothers, John and James Maumelle. The city’s current name is a tribute to both the Maumelle brothers and their hometown of Memphis, Tennessee. The first settlers in what is todayMaumelle were farmers. The area that now includes the city was part of theIndian Territory from 1827 until it was admitted into the Union as Arkansas in 1861. In 1872, John Maumelle founded a grocery store in what is now downtown Maumelle. Over time, other businesses followed suit and the downtown business district became one of the most thriving areas in town. In 1904, J.C. Hubbell purchased land adjacent to present-day Riverfront Drive and built a large shopping mall which remains an integral part of the community today. That same year also saw the introduction of electricity to town and development began on what would become known as Hubbell Park – home to many local churches (including First Baptist) as well as numerous businesses including a movie theater and post office. In 1916, Hurricane Babe caused significant damage across much of Arkansas; however, little impact occurred within Maumelle proper. By 1920, construction had begun on what would become known as Hoover Dam; however, this project ultimately failed due to financial difficulties and its completion did not occur until 1935 after years of planning and fundraising by locals and national organizations such as UNESCO). Today’s downtown area is home to several restaurants/cafes/bars/shops along with primary schools (such as Central High School), libraries (Arkansas State University), health care providers (Humana Health Care Solutions), government buildings (the Mayor’s Office) – all within walking distance for residents or easy access through public transportation options such as buses or trains!
