The name of the first post office in the community was Russelville, but it was renamed Russellville in 1901 after J.D.'s father, also named John Russel. As of the census of 2000, there were 1,564 people, 476 households, and 363 families residing in the town; however, according to the 2006 U .S . Russellville is an inconspicuous town in Northwest Arkansas, located about 25 miles east of Fayetteville on I-40. The population was 2,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Russellville–Fayetteville–Springdale, AR Metropolitan Statistical Area. Russellville was founded in 1877 by a group of settlers from Illinois and Ohio who were looking for a new home. At first they named the town after their old home in Illinois – Russeltown – but soon realized that no one would know where it was. So they changed it to Russellville after General James A. Russell, who had helped lead the Union victory over Confederate General Robert E. Lee at Appomattox Court House in 1865. The original store building still stands today and is used as the town hall Jeffries Municipal Center which opened in 1968. The post office opened in 1879 and closed in 1984; however, there have been numerous attempts to reopen the post office since then without success. The only other business that has operated continuously in Russellville since then is the elementary school which serves grades K-2 from Preble Elementary School and Webber Middle School until 9th grade when HarperElementarySchool opens its doors; however, this school unfortunately closed down due to low enrollment around 2009-2010 season. It wasn't until 1980 when businessman Jerry Roemer decided to open his own grocery store in what was once an abandoned gas station across from Preble Elementary School; he successfully funded and built his store with help from local citizens and businesses alike until it closed down again due to economic problems in 2006-2007 season (although he reopened it briefly before ceasing operations). In recent years there have been several attempts by small businesses owners within walking distance of Preble Elementary School to open up shop but all have failed due either to lack of support or competition from larger businesses closer by that can offer more jobs/. In spite of these troubles, many people continue to live and work within easy reach of both Preble Elementary School and Webber Middle School making those schools some of the most vibrant communities within radius around Russellville-. There are several churches located throughout town including First Baptist Church (founded 1903), Christ United Methodist Church (1893), Masonic Lodge No 1 (1902), American Legion Post No 103 (founded 1917), Assemblies Of GodChurch (born 1925) as well as two mosques which serve Muslims only (. . .) When President Harry S Truman visited Northwest Arkansas during World War II he stopped at Roemer's Grocery Store on October 10th 1945 while en route northward through Arkansas on his way back from California; later historians stated that this particular stop may have been Truman's favorite stop during his time as governor because it demonstrated how important groceries were for war effort ().
