Sherwood is a small town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 1,471 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Bryant–Denny–Fayetteville Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first European settlers in Sherwood were Dutch immigrants who came to the area in 1824. As more and more people migrated to the Ozarks during the 1830s and 1840s, many of these new arrivals began moving into what would become Sherwood. In 1847, General Nathan Bedford Forrest surveyed land that would become Sherwood and named it for General James Sherman's father-in-law, David Dixon Sherwood. The town was founded on July 3, 1849 by six residents of Decatur County: John Wilkinson (bishop of Arkansas), George Waring (a justice of the peace), James Aiken (a lawyer and politician), Ebenezer Pratt (a farmer/general store owner/builder), Nicholas Boudreau (a laborer) and Salmon Poulson (an engineer). The town experienced significant growth from its founding until about 1880 when it largely declined due to various factors such as a lack of natural resources or an influx of new settlers who were unable to maintain their properties givenArkansas' harsh winters. However, some newcomers did manage to establish successful businesses such as a gristmill run by J.P. Whitney which continued operation until 1918; a telephone office opened in 1903; and a sawmill that operated until 1912. In 1902, four men – Hamer Crain dairy operator Rufus Wiman Jr., hardware store proprietor Augustus Whitehurst, grocery store manager Charles Ladd – organized what would become known as "The Cotton Club" which met at Cheatham's Saloon on October 15th for business purposes only but soon became involved in political activism including starting their own newspaper called "The Arkansas Democrat". They also formed themselves into a trade union with local chapters throughout the state while continuing to meet at Cheatham's each weeknight for political discussion and beer drinking sessions known as "the nighters." After successfully running for election on November 7th as Jackson County judge against incumbent Lewis Sisseton with support from fellow "Cotton Club" members he won re-election unopposed two years later on November 2nd despite being challenged by former congressman John Dickey Sr.. For his services during this time he was awarded an annual salary of $2,500 dollars which set an example for future candidates seeking election without having raised even $1 thousand dollars! It wasn't until 1904 that oil exploration began occurring off the coast of Sheridan County adjacent to present day Sherwood when one prospector named Vernon McGee drilled three wells totaling 973 feet deep within just twelve days yielding gasoline & gasoil products along with several thousand barrels or so of water per day which led eventually to McGhee becoming one ofSherwood's most successful businessmen before selling his interests in 1911 en route back home to Tulsa Oklahoma after developing some petroleum reserves there too! Following World War I however economic conditions changed significantly across much southern Arkansas resulting in declining rural populations followed quickly by decreases in production at local mines leading many families leaving their homes altogether seeking opportunities elsewhere including Uniontown Texas where they established themselves as substantial landowners there over time! With less access now than ever before milk had long been considered essential foodstuff within smaller villages like Sheridan thanks largely to cowboys working out west providing milk transportation back east though something still required daily delivery today

The community was founded in 1907 by James Nicholson and his family. The name comes from Sherwood Forest outside London, England, where James Nicholson had been born in 1873. In 1925, the post office was renamed after John Fenton Sherwood, an American banker and philanthropist who donated $5,000 to the town's development. Sherwood has a Methodist church, a schoolhouse built in 1906 and remodeled in 1961-1964 (the original structure burned down in 1984), a park with tennis courts and playgrounds as well as several homes dating back to the early 1900s. A brewery operated by Pabst Brewing Company until it closed its doors in 2001; however, Sherwood remains home to one of the few remaining Pabst Brewing plants statewide that produces Schlitz beers.
