The Springdale Army Post Office has been in operation since 1908. It was first located on the east side of town, but it moved to its current location on State Street in 1917. The post office is a part of the Arkansas National Guard and has been used as an armory for many years. Springdale is a city in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 27,754 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Pulaski County. Springdale was founded on December 1, 1883 by businessman and political leader James H. Sprague and named for him. The city is located in the eastern edge of Pulaski County on the Arkansas River between Little Rock and North Little Rock. It is bordered to the north by North Little Rock and to the east by Arkadelphia. Interstate 40 passes through town, leading south to Little Rock and north to Bentonville. It began as a small log cabin community called Sprague's Station on Red Willow Creek about two miles west of where Springdale now stands. A post office was established in 1884, but no mail ever arrived there becausesprague had moved his headquarters to Arkadelphia soon after its establishment. Sprague quickly became one of the most influential men in Pulaski County due not only to his business acumen but also his political connections; he served as mayor (1887-92), member of the state House (1893-97), and governor (1901-03). He also played an important role in developing Springdale into a major center of commerce and industry with its own water system, streetcar line, electric lights and Telephone Company; it retains some these features today although much has changed since those days including population growth which has led to pressing demands for more space within town limits which have occasionally led to sprawl outside town boundaries
