Adelanto, California is a town located in the central part of San Bernardino County, California. It is bordered by Diamond Bar on the east and north, Fontana on the south, and Joshua Tree National Park to the west. As of 2010, its population was 27,554. The name Adelanto comes from Spanish meaning "a place where apples are grown." The first adobe building in town was built in 1882. The discovery of oil in Northern California in 1901 led to an influx of people and businesses to Adelanto. Businesses included a refiner named John D. Rockefeller who built his refinery on what is now First Street near Main Avenue. In 1907, Standard Oil Company bought Rockefeller's refinery and began production there for their eastern customers which continued until 1969 when it closed down due to environmental concerns. Other businesses that cropped up during this time include Wernham Hogg Paper Co., Jardine Hogg Paper Co., RCA Victor Corporation (now Universal Music Group), Sellers Shoes Inc., Pacific Telephone & Telegraph Company (later Western Electric), Valley Ford dealership company and many more! In 1957, the Interstate 5 bypassed Adelanto completely making it easier for drivers to get around town without having to go through it! This made the shopping area much less congested which helped increase business opportunities for local businesses! In fact, after I-5 was widened in 1991-1992 by then Governor Pete Wilson - one of the largest projects ever undertaken in Southern California - storefronts were all taken over by small businesses who opened directly inside I-5 lanes! Today there are several large box stores that have moved out into other areas within town limits but many small mom&pop shops remain unchanged! Today’s economy is based largely on agriculture with some light manufacturing as well as services such as restaurant/bars/theater/services provided by larger companies such as Googleplex or Apple Inc.. Many residents commute into cities or other larger metropolitan areas for work but access to quality education remains strong here with four universities within walking distance: Cal State Fullerton (CSUF), University of Redlands (UDR), University of Southern California (USC) and Monterrey Community College(MCC). There are also numerous small commercial entities providing essential services including health careitals like Kaiser Permanente Medical Center or Petco Park; agricultural products like almonds or tomatoes from Agave Farms LLC; automotive parts suppliers such as Midas Automotive Parts or MoparParts; home repair shops including Home Depot or Lowe’s; software development houses such as Appaloosa Development Group or Mozart Software Solutions; construction companies offering both big jobsites with 7500 square feet per jobber plus office space available at multiple locations; etcetera

On Nov. 12, 1941, the United States Air Force deployed a gift to the Royal Japanese Army in order to celebrate the end of World War II. The gift was two Lockheed P-38 Lightning fighter planes.
Adelanto, California is a small town located in the San Joaquin Valley of Northern California. The town was founded in 1887 by Mormon missionaries from Utah. The community grew rapidly after the opening of the Central Pacific Railroad in 1891. By 1930, Adelanto had more than 10,000 residents. It experienced significant growth during World War II as the military depot for nearby Pascagoula Army Ammunition Plant and its production of ammunition and explosives. Since then, Adelanto has been slowly declining in population and economic significance. In 2000, it had an population of 753; by 2010, it had only 584 residents. Adelanto's history begins with Mormon missionaries who arrived in 1887 to proselytize for Jesus Christ among Native Americans living near Stockton and Bakersfield. One year later, on January 6th, 1889 the first post office was established at present-day Adelante with Wm Halsey as Postmaster General. At that time there were only a few hundred people living hereabouts although within a day or two some 400 pioneers had gathered at the new adobe rancho called "Arroyo de la Mesa". The Palouse Indians (Lummi Nation) inhabited this area before Spanish traders arrived in 1776 to trade goods such as horses and other livestock for pottery products which they found on their return trips across these mountains from Olympia Bayou northward through today’s Lassen National Forest into what is now Sacramento County…. The railroad reached Adelante on August 15th 1892 after days of journey over difficult terrain following a course parallel to today’s State Route 128…the townsite plat was filed September 12th [1892] under BR> Chico Co., Cal…the platted sections east side Galt Road between Old Umpqua & Butte Creek were surveyed November 8th 1890 & given to Fannie Hanks upon her purchase of Rancho Los Alamitos Separate from Rancho Rinconada Septic Tank District October 1st 1888….. In Jan 1893 Brigham Young Jr.'s First Presidency issued directive finding that all Mormons should move West starting February 16th 1863…. prompt action resulted when James Wellman applied for homestead on May 22nd 1863…….. Wellman was assigned 640 acres along Arroyo de la Mesa where he built his home adobe rancho known as “Granada”………….. On July 3rd 1865 wagonloads of settlers began arriving here including 200 men led by Capt Jesse Unruh……………………………..Unruh purchased land extending down La Honda River next to today's City Limits so his men could well situated themselves…………….In 1896 Brigham Young Jr organized Church Mission Dept having 2 counselors each from Salt Lake City D&C Meeting held 9/11/95 at Orchard Grove Hotel……………Church members traveled extensively throughout most US stateside during mid 1800’s preaching & baptizing hundreds if not thousands……………………………..Church membership peaked at 185k+Members Apr 1907 when Temple LotPurchase took place……………………………..Today about 20% active LDS Membership still practicing worldwide
Adelanto is located in San Bernardino County, California. The community was founded by the Myriam and Isidore Adelanto on November 10, 1887. The original post office was known as "Dalton." It served the communities of Hamilton, Glendale, and Thousand Oaks until it closed its doors on December 15, 1912.
